This hotel was so different than anything we saw in Waikiki. It has kind of a Balinese look to it. The lobby had a velvet bed that was like something you would see in a harems tent. It had lovely little touches, and candles everywhere. The room was so beautiful. It had elegant platform beds and we could see a concert at the Waikiki Shell from our balcony had there been one. The restaurant and night club apparently closed down a week before we go there I am not sure what happened but we did go and look at it and it was really something else. It was a bummer, hopefully they fix the issue before we go next time. Anyway, if you are looking of a classic Hawaiian themed hotel this isn't it. But if you like exotic, eastern decor that is comfortably elegant but not pretentious. (like decorated in a higher end pier one imports style) Then you will love this hotel.
I liked the bed fine, but it didn't matter because every time i wanted to take a nap, the gardener would fire up his leaf blower. What gives? You can't use these damn things in my home city, why would i want to come on vacation to hear how...
I should have known by our first bad experiece the year before. We were staying at the Royal Hawaiin, several times and just wanted a change. We were told by the Starwood people to "drop by and have a look at the rooms and grounds.

I love this property. I try to stay here at least once a year. It is off the beaten path as far as its proximity to Waikiki, but it is still central enough to be close to all of the places important to me. The Diamondhead Grill restaurant serves the best Opakapaka!
It is always a comfort to walk into the W hotel with the Bali decor, the whitewashed walls, the colorful accents and the fantastic beds.
