I had a very bad experience at the London. I was initially given a room for disabled persons without any notice. When I asked to move to a standard room, I was sent to a much smaller room 20 floors lower down.
This new room had an odd smell because the minibar was filled with moldy bags of food from the prior occupant. When I complained and asked for a room in which the minibar was not filled with moldy food, I was told that I had to speak to a manager if I wanted to switch rooms again.
The duty manager showed up at my door with a security guard. Rather than apologizing and providing me with a new room, I was told that I should leave the hotel because I was obviously unhappy with the service and the rooms. I left a message for the general manager, but received no response.
The management and staff need proper training and adult supervision. Guests should not be assigned rooms for disabled persons without their consent. Guests should not be given rooms in which the minibar is filled with moldy food from the prior occupant.
The only acceptable response from the hotel would have been an apology, a new room, and a discount, upgrade, or gift to make up for the inconvenience of having to twice move rooms and remove moldy food from the minibar. Instead, I had the duty manager show up at my door with a security guard telling me I should leave if I was unhappy with my room. I checked out the following morning. I will never set foot in this or any other LXR hotel again.
Apart from the awful service, the lobby is a busy, crowded and unpleasant environment filled with baggage carts and lines of people waiting to check-in or check-out. There was also a strong marijuana odor in several of the elevators. The rooms are not well maintained and seemed dirty. Despite the fact the hotel is over 50 stories tall, very few rooms have views as the hotel is surrounded by other tall buildings. For privacy, you have to keep your shades closed as most rooms seem to look right into offices accross the street.
I travel to NY once a month. I have had very pleasant stays at the Essex House, Carlyle, Loews Regency, and Plaza Athenee. I normally never write reviews, but I sincerely believe travelers should be informed that the London is a truly awful and poorly managed hotel.
Don't be tempted by the cheap special rates being offered by the hotel. There are much better choices.

Wonderful upscale hotel near Central Park, 5th Ave. and Times Square. Very high speed wireless access throughout the hotel. Professional European staff, but not stiff at all. Not exactly a family friendly hotel, but perfect for those on business

I decided to try the London Bar for afternoon tea. I have been to many places for afternoon tea and I can honestly say that this was the worst afternoon tea that I have ever experienced. The following are my reasons:

Great location, great suite, very nice check-in staff and concierge. Came back from a dinner and late show to a frigid 54 deg F room in late May. Not very conducive to a romantic weekend. Called Front Desk staff to inform, yet still no heat 30...
Went for afternoon tea, and they had the cheek to serve whipped cream with my scones, probably thinking that a stupid American like me wouldn't know the difference. When asked if they had proper clotted cream, the reply was no. NO???? One word... ...
