We normally stay with the cookie cutter hotels. We wanted to stay far away from the casinos and Mystic. The hotel was located about 10 minutes from everywhere in a upscale neighborhood. All the staff member were very...
My wife and I stayed at the mansion on October 5 and were sorely dissapointed with our room which was directly over the bar below. To begin with, the toilet didn't flush, paint was peeling from the ceiling above the tub, there was dark mold or...

We were somewhat concerned at first. I insist on reading reviews on several sites... I must say we were quite surprised. When we checked in we were greeted with a warm smile and even taken to our room by a staff member. The room was quite large and clean. The bellman? was very knowledgeable, she knew a lot about the hotels history and was very friendly.
There was a band playing until 10pm in the tavern- very relaxing atmosphere. In the morning they had a very nice buffet breakfast-- i think it cost us 45 for the two of us. I would love to come back in the winter time-

Old and Falling apart. The place is nothing like the photos. It's OLD and falling apart. The staff is lacking. Our room wasn't even ready at 3 pm. The surrounding neighborhood was nasty. There's not much in the town of new london. We asked for towels at 3:30pm and a room svc. menu and as of 9:30am the next day we still didn't have either. The room was dirty the toilet handle kept falling off when you flushed. The sheets had stains. There were paint chips on the floor. The pool bathrooms were filthy. Need I go on!!! I wouldn't let my dog stay here. It's sad that such a historic place has gotten so run down.
I am not likely
to return to the The Lighthouse Inn Resort.
I would not recommend it to friends.

Our room was wonderful. Do NOT stay on the first floor in the carriage house.. we were upgraded to room 23 in the mansion- the room overlooked the fountain and lawn. The beds were sleep number beds- first I have seen in a hotel. The bathroom was spotless, and the restaurant excellent. The ownder went out of her way- explaining the history or the property.

My husband and I had originally booked a room in the Carriage House for 3 nights. When we got to the reception desk, we waited for almost 40 minutes as the 1 girl working behind the counter stuggled to help the couple in front of us. She didn't even acknowledge us until she was finished helping the first couple.
We finally get the key to our room (we got in 2 hours early and waited for 40 minutes only to be told that our room wouldn't be ready until 3pm) and entered the Carriage House, which smelled moldy and had water stains on the carpet in the hallways. We layed down to take a nap. About 10 minutes later, my husband wakes me up in horror. A huge ant had crawled into his ear while he was sleeping. We found more ants on floor of our bed. We called the front desk to ask for an upgrade. She told us that there were no rooms left in the mansion, so she would give us a new room on the other side of the Carriage House. In this room, we found dirty, used tissues and gum under the bed, I stepped on a sharp piece of metal in the bathroom and one of the towels had blood stains on it. Believe me, I couldn't make this stuff up if I tried. We promptly left the hotel and stayed at the Cedar Park jacuzzi place and had a wonderful time for the rest of our trip.
This is not a cheap hotel. There are so many better hotels in the area that it's not worth the risk or the money. And trust me, the beach is nothing special, definitely not worth all the drama we went through. My advice is STAY FAR AWAY!!!!
