The Liberty is a new hotel (August 2007) built around the Old Charles Street Jail in Boston. The use of the Jail theme is creative and makes for an interesting motif.
The location is across from the MGH station which is nice although that means the hotel is next to MGH (Mass General Hospital). There was always some activity outside but the sounds never made it into the room. Not really a bother to me but I can see it potentially as an issue to others.
The service from the doorman, bell staff, and bar service was exceptional. Front desk staff was acceptable. Restaurant service was inconsistent the two times I dined. Only one restaurant was open at the time I visited.
The room was clean and crisp albeit smaller than expected. Bed was a little firm given it was brand new but comfortable none the less. There is a minibar, flat panel, and a coffee maker for amenities.
The Bathroom was big enough but the shower was small. There is not enough room to bend over to wash your feet without hitting your head on the knob or wall. Lighting was acceptable. Tub looked adequate for one person though I did not use it.
Overall, it was a good experience and will stay near the top of the list of hotels to consider when I visit Boston again.
