52 year old female with a moderate budget, traveling for leisure

Went for a girls' weekend--we had high expectations based on the website. Unfortunately, not as advertised. Room was spacious, comfortable enough, and clean, but nowhere as nice as pictured. The A/C and fan were noisy, though not unbearable. The bedding, floors, etc., were updated, but the furniture was old and repainted--didn't quite pull together. We had reserved for three, but the room was only set up for two. When I called the front desk, I was put on hold and after a long wait, I finally gave up on talking to anyone. We spoke to someone at the front desk on Sat. and the room set up was corrected. We did enjoy the pool and appreciated the substitute desk person bringing our drinks instead of making us wait (Only one person working both the front desk and the "bar.") Maybe these things seem minor, but our main complaints involve the room amenities and the so-called continental breakfast. In the room you'll find a pencil, note pad, and bottled water, all with the hotel logo, yet you are given cheap hotel packages of Breck shampoo and Dial Soap. For the price and the hype, these should be upgraded. Why not have better brand hotel labeled items, maybe even some homemade soap (there are locally made soaps in town)? Also get rid of the cheap plastic cups and ice bucket. Folger's coffee is ok, but why not a nice Columbian? Plus, pay attention to how many people will be in the room and be set up for that number. Second, the continental breakfast was a joke. We found a plate of minature muffins (one kind only), some napkins, plastic packaged cereal bowls, and a sign that said juice and milk upon request. Ridiculous! I've been to many less expensive motels with far better spreads.

At least add some fruit, a bigger selection of pastries, and an urn of decent coffee with real cream, etc. The only coffee in the lobby was lattes and such that you had to purchase. My biggest disappointment was that I had made a reservation weeks in advance for one of the great summer spa packages and when I got to the spa Sunday morning, I found that I had been scheduled incorrectly and wasn't able to get the services I planned on. I ended up getting a massage only (Kristen is a sweetheart, by the way). The owner discounted the massage as a way to make up the problem, which I appreciated, and offered to work me in later for the other services, but some things just can't be made right. In all, I would give the spa another chance if I ever went back to Castroville, but I'd probably look for a B & B and not stay at the hotel again.

I am somewhat likely to return to the The Hotel Alsace.
I might recommend it to friends.

Views- Perfection

Facial Services in Spa- Best I've ever been to (which has been a lot)

Restaurant-great prices and variety at lunch; I do no know about the dinner menu; Extremely romantic or a great place to take a friend or family members to enjoy the wonderful food and great atmosphere

Massages-I do not personally know, but have heard great reviews around town

Spa/Massage facilities-those of a high priced, big city spa

Lounge for Beer and Wine-wonderful views, nice prices, peaceful environment. I would love to be taken there on a date, but love it just as much as when me and my girls go or when the whole family goes

Service-always accommodating and cheerful

I give it five stars. I only fear that me leaving this great (true) review will mean that I cannot always go there because it might be too busy! That's a joke. I tell everyone I know about it because I have never left that place without a good smile and a good feeling for the rest of the day.

Very very dissapointed in how the staff was not very professional. I love the town of Castroville, but this one girl in particular was extremely rude!!!

The Hotel Alsace in quiet, beautiful, historic and friendly Castroville, Texas is GRAND! Out of nowhere on hwy 90-west is an amazing hotel and spa-yes-a spa! Oh what a spa it is-facials, massages and skin care products. The staff was beyong kind-truly sureal expierence. If you happen to be in the neighborhood-stop and stay a while-you will feel at home, away from home. I LOVED IT! Southern Lady

I truly enjoyed staying at this hotel and I will return a.s.a.p. The rooms are very clean and spacious, rates very fair, hospitality-GREAT and the views-AWESOME. I will definitly be checking out the spa and swimming in the crystal clear blue pool-next time I have the pleasure of staying in this small-town, up-town hotel. New Yorker
