As a guest of the French Manor you will enjoy its mountaintop setting. From our spacious veranda, you will survey the beautiful crests and ridges of the northern Pocono Mountains. The French Manor is an elegant country inn unlike any other, secluded and private, like a secret lookout separate from the populace. Spacious, uncompromising accommodations, together with fine service, make The French Manor perfect for your long or short term getaway. Since it's construction in 1932, it has been used as a private retreat for Joseph Hirshhorn and, later by Samuel Kress (of department store fame). After Kress willed the property to Bucknell University, it stood unoccupied for 16 years. In the mid 80's it was opened as a bed and breakfast. In 1990 it was transformed into a full scale country inn and fine dine restaurant by Ron and Mary Kay Logan, who own and have operated the Sterling Inn for the past 22 years. Modeled after Hirshhorn's actual French Manor in the south of France, the building possesses many fine features shared only by its European namesake. Craftsmen and artisans of German and Italian descent, whose children still inhabit the surrounding countryside, created the French Manor as a unique stone chateau, using the natural lumber and fieldstones of Huckleberry Mountain. The French Manor's imported Spanish slate roof, 'pecky' cypress interior and great hall, Romanesque arched entranceway, and massive stone fireplaces attest to the artisan's mastery.

My fiancé and I found the French Manor online and fell in love. We began booking our wedding there in the winter. Little did we know that a month before our wedding, we would have to find another place last minute. The manager of the B&B promised to take care of many of the details for our wedding, as it would cost us $150 per head + over $2500 in rental fees. 1 1/2 months before our wedding they informed us that it would cost them too much money for them to take down the decor from the wedding that was taking place the day before ours. They rudely told us that we'd be stuck with it, or we could take our money back and go somewhere else. And because there was a wedding the day before, they wouldn't allow us to remove the decorations ourselves and redecorate. They also would not help us put out any of the candles or anything we purchased like they promised. They were so nasty about everything that my fiancé left in tears. Do not waste your money. I'm sure the French Manor was beautiful at one time, but now it is just a run down set of buildings with no landscaping and extremely rude, undependable staff.
Response from the Hotel:
The French Manor, built as a miniature castle, is a 4-diamond property in the Poconos. The current owners have operated the French Manor for 17 years; hosting romantic getaways, upscale parties and special weddings. The family operation and attention to detail has earned them two 4-diamond awards, both for lodging and fine dining. This type of service is provided to each and every guest, whether it is a table-for-two, or a 200 person wedding.
In response to Devestated1inPA's review: After months of planning a custom menu and reception, designed personalized Save the Date Cards, and invitations were even sent out - this Bride-to-be began making unreasonable demands that we could not fulfill after the contract had been agreed to. We always try to go above and beyond, however, we could not meet her "list of demands". It is unfortunate that the bride felt the need to cancel her wedding since we would have done our utmost to make it beautiful with exceptional food and service for which the French Manor is known. We have never experienced wedding planning that was based on demands and threats. Her critique of our establishment is unreasonable and unfounded, as she never had the chance to experience our service and cuisine. We finally agreed to her request to cancel and refunded the deposit in full, as it seemed impossible to please this bride.
We hope you will take our comments into consideration as you plan your next get-a-way or special event.
