This is a wonderful old hotel, located centrally in downtown. The rooms are very nice. A couple of weddings over the weekend made the restaurant too crowded for timely service.
This hotel made me feel respected: This hotel is located in the middle of the plush Nob Hill community, where old wealth is obvious in every part of the community.
I am
somewhat likely
to return to the The Fairmont, San Francisco.
I
might recommend it to
friends.

The Fairmont took care of all of our needs and even upgraded our room upon arrival for a minimal cost. We felt pampered throughout our stay. The location was prime to all of our interests in San Francisco.
This hotel made me feel secure: The Fairmont made it clear our best interest was at heart when they made special arrangements to get us to the airport. We were flying home right after a raised terror alert. They gave advice and made us feel confident in our trip.
I am
very likely
to return to the The Fairmont, San Francisco.
I
would definitely recommend it to

The Fairmont hotel in San Francisco is spectacular, historical and full of character. I love to walk around Nob Hill and Russian Hill in the evening after a long day of working. The rooms, especially the ones that face North, have beautiful views. My only gripe is that the last time I went, I was really disappointed at the quality of the happy hour buffet in the Tonga Room. Our server was impatient and the selection of happy hour appetizers was small and cold. I would still recommend the Fairmont hotel, though.
This hotel made me feel secure: I think the rooms are secure and have good locks. I have also never had a problem with my room keys.
I am
very likely
to return to the The Fairmont, San Francisco.
I
would definitely recommend it to
friends.

While their lobby may be stunning, the rooms are not. Like an old mansion, the rooms are large, but drafty and dull. The furnishings were dreary and the room had an old brown wooden door that was not soundproofed. The hotel claims to have been renovated, but a lot of the woodwork was scuffed and the elevator was as well. The wait for the elevator can also be lengthy, as they only have two for such an enormous hotel.
When I arrived at 11 pm with heavy baggage, no bellman was in sight, so I had to carry my luggage up the stairs as exhausted as I was from 12 hours on Amtrak. This is supposed to be a 5 star hotel and they did not provide a coffee maker as every other hotel does. When I called the desk to request one, they stated that the hotel doesn't provide coffee makers. Great, especially since I love a hot drink upon waking up. Most hotel rooms are freezing and this one is no exception, so hot coffee in the room is hardly a luxury, but this hotel seems to think that is. I would not stay here again, although the staff was polite, the rooms were just too gloomy to appreciate this hotel.
I am
not likely
to return to the The Fairmont, San Francisco.
I
would not recommend it to

The hotel was easy to find but you cannot be intimidated by San Francisco driving and miss the parking lot. The rooms were nice and the hotel itself was very extravagant. I am not impressed by lot of gold but I was impressed with the size of the place. I was there for a conference so I did not get to do much. I heard bad things about the food but the hotel was by lot of food places so nobody was to starve. The grace cathedral across the way was amazing.

The Fairmont was a very comfortable, historic hotel. Although the tower provides great views of the city and the bay, the historic older part of the hotel was well worth considering. The lobby, the bar and other elements of this hotel make it an experience, not just a place to stay. I would definitely stay at the Fairmont again if I were to travel to San Francisco.
This hotel made me feel welcome: I was impressed by the welcome greeting by bellman at front door. I got a great personal service at the front desk. The room service staff was extremely friendly. Overall, it was a great experience with all members of hotel staff.

very likely

An impressive architectural show atop San Francisco's Nob Hill, this hotel's best experience is from the outside. A tired and untrained staff misses the mark on the 5-star service it purports to offer. The rooms need to be upgraded and so do the restaurant offerings as they are average and unimaginative.
The hotel management as well as Fairmont Corporate seem to have given up on keeping this property to their Canadian Fairmont standards. Room service often delivered overripe fruit.

It's in a very nice location, it's easy to walk to Union Square or down to the business district. It's on the top of the hill, so be prepared to walk up and down a steep hill. The rooms have a very nice view.

I loved the hotel. The staff was great. The only problem was that there were no robes in our room. We asked the housekeeping staff to bring some, which they said they would do, but we never received them.
