34 year old female with a moderate budget, traveling for leisure

I booked this hotel a month in advance and when I arrived They didn't have a room for us. They said there was renovations but this was not disclosed and I received a confirmation and the money was taken for the reservation. We drove nearly 20 hours to get there and were completely exhausted. There was no manager on duty when we arrived. They gave us a voucher for a nearby hotel that was only good for 6 hours until checkout and said to come back after four P.M. to see if a room came available. We did end up getting a room the next day but the room was small and awkward. The entertainment center and wardrobe were at the front of the room but left little room to get around between the end of the beds. the beds were hard, the paint on the ceiling was cracked and peeling, the only way to vent the bathroom was to open a window. The furniture is outdated and the floors of the upper deck breezeway felt like it was sagging and rotted. We paid for a movie and the channel was so fuzzy you could hardly see it and the maintenance man said it couldn't be fixed that's just how it is. The customer service was horrible --front desk, who didn't seem to be at all sympathetic to our plight and the security guard, who told me nothing could be done about not having a room so leave. The entertainment center rumbled loudly when anyone passed by outside--not good in the middle of the night--I thought it was an earthquake. They charge for parking and the angle at which you have to approach to swipe the room card for the gate is awkward and spills you into a crosswalk--I witnessed many close calls with pedestrians. The stress of not having a room set our vacation off to stress and anxiety, frustration and disaccord. I felt like this hotel was a rip off for the price and the front desk people need to not overbook or lose reservations. It's called a reservation not a gamble!! I would never recommend this hotel to anyone--save your money and book elsewhere.

I am not likely to return to the The Dana on Mission Bay.
I would not recommend it to friends.

40 year old male with a moderate budget, traveling for leisure

My friend was visiting from Iowa, and unfortunately I suggested this property. We stayed there from 24-27 September 2007 and were very, very dissatisfied. The room was very small and dark. There was construction, sawing and hammering nearby. Paint was peeling from the ceiling, and the bedspread was torn. When we washed at the sink, the air conditioner blew cold air on our legs and had to be turned off. The room was so small that one had to climb over the bed if another person was putting clothes in the closet to get past them. The TV channel selector listed a PBS station (we wanted to watch the award winning series, "The War" by Ken Burns), but that station was apparently not carried on the Hotel's satellite system. There was no follow up by the hotel's engineer, although he had promised to get back to us. The attitude in the office was aloof and unresponsive. The Hotel's General Manager at first refused to meet with me, but later got back to me by phone. He completely declined to meet with me in person, even though I wished to do that and offered to make time available for such a meeting. The manager did upgrade our room to the newer section, but gave us a room overlooking a public bathroom in Mission Bay Park. There was no bottled water provided, as I was accustomed to receiving at even budget lodging, the vending machines would not accept dollar bills, the front desk apparently did not have the ability to make change, and after we switched rooms, nobody inquired about our satisfaction. As you know, the hotel is located in a public park, Mission Bay Park, which the homeless use for shelter, and there apparently was no on site hotel security. We didn't encounter any security personnel during our long trek over the entire property one night searching for a bottled water vending machine. The grounds and walk ways are very poorly lighted. Finally, unlike the nearby Bahia and Catamaran Hotels, which offer a Manager's Reception to guests once a week with complimentary wine, cheese and fruit platters, this property does not offer such a reception. I asked the Manager to get back to me and to refund a portion of our room rate of $160/night, but he never followed up. I would urge anyone contemplating booking at this property to avoid it. It is a poor value, has unacceptable and nonexistent customer service, and is not comparable or competitive with other nearby properties.

59 year old female with a luxury budget, traveling for leisure

It was a great location, with an excellent staff and clean pleasant rooms. There was marginal noise in the main restaurant. They had a nice beach.

This hotel made me feel relaxed: It had a beautiful water view and a great walkway along the beach.

I am very likely to return to the The Dana on Mission Bay.
I would definitely recommend it to friends.
