On October 14 2006 around lunchtime, we saw the exterior of the hotel, and the name Adam's Mark was easily read from the highway exit ramp. Because of online reviews, I knew the hotel was previously named Adam's Mark; otherwise we would have had difficulty spotting the hotel other than by the address. On the street the hotel faces, the Blake hotel name was a 'banner' hanging on the hotel. Also, upon entering the hotel, the awning/overhang on the far left corner above the sidewalk was so 'rotted' a large portion was missing and another was hanging.
Upon entering the hotel, it immediately looked like it hadn't been cleaned like even a budget hotel. The immediate impression was that the hotel is short/poorly staffed for proper cleaning. The wooden baseboards haven't been refinished. An electrical outlet in the lobby is loose. The workout facility is worse than any brand of Marriott. The staff said the only part left for the renovation is wallpaper. This hotel has been severely neglected; the only way to salvage it is to demolish and rebuild. New carpet, wallpaper and cheap furniture only go so far to attract clients. We looked at two different rooms on two different floors. One had new furniture and the other had the previous furniture; however both had new carpet. Both bathrooms looked like everything was original from 1973 based on the condition. The tile was molded on over 20% of the tiles in both bathrooms on both floors. One of the non-smoking rooms smelled smoky, old, and musty.

The Blake does not guarantee non-smoking rooms. Checking in later in the evening turned out to be a disaster for myself, due to my allergies and the smoke combination. Their parking deck is attached, but you have to walk outside to get back to the main entrance, they have no elevator connection yet. Traveling alone I wouldn't stay here again. I may stay here again if it was less than $100 a night.

Horrible
The shower was covered in mold. They've gone retro in their renovations in an attempt to get away with not replacing all the wood laminate countertops, etc that are in terrible condition. The people at the front desk act like you are...

Mediocre
Since there were 3 rolls of towels, I didn't check before taking a bath. There was neither wash towel nor hand towel. (I left a note.) The compliments in the bathroom looked dusty. That was dissapointing. Being under renovation doesn't bother...

Good
when you walk into the Blake, you feel like you just walked into the newest hippest night club. Overall I satisfied with the hotel room, except they need to update the bathrooms. Rooms were nice and clean and the pool table was...

We recently stayed at this hotel, which is supposed to be an upscale hotel with suites and so on in Charlotte, NC.
Our check-in went pretty well. The front desk staff was friendly and as helpful as they could be.
The room however was a standard room, two double beds. The mattresses, which they claim are new, do not fit the box springs. Also, on one of the beds, the box spring didn't fit the metal frame it was on, and about two inches of the metal center support bar stuck out from the bed, which could cause significant injury in the middle of the night.
Next, housekeeping had not stocked the bathroom with any soap or shampoo.
After a call to the desk, letting them know we'd be gone for about 3.5 hours, we went out. When we got back, housekeeping had not done a thing, and we called again. The front desk staff was apologetic about the oversight, but we shouldn't have had to call twice.
The beds weren't terribly comfortable, though none of us could figure out why. We all woke up early, and decided to shorten our stay and leave, even before taking showers, or eating breakfast. When we checked out, the attendant at the front desk barely said a word to us, not "Thank you for staying with us," not "Have a nice day," or anything. Just a blank wall of "I don't give a damn you were even here."
I decided to let the management know of our stay on the following Monday. When I finally got a hold of a manager, she was rude and confrontational. The tone of the way she interacted with me was such that I started to feel it was "our" fault we had a bad experience.
If I could, I'd give this place -5 stars.
We have been unable to find a contact number for the Amsterdam Hospitality Group, the management group that runs the hotel.
Needless to say, we will not be staying there again, even after they finish the renovations.
Other minor annoyances: The only ice machine was on the 7th floor. The restaurant(s) were closed due to renovations. No garage access to the lobby, had to walk all the way around the hotel to get back in. 1 inch gap under our room's door, so all the hallway noise came right in. No clock in room. No guest services information sheet/directory. Only one housekeeping staff person was there while we were there, even at 4 pm. The ceiling light in bathroom was burnt out when we got there.
