We picked the Surfside because we wanted a long weekend in P-Town and very few options existed. Most required a weekly stay. We were concerned because we had seen some questionable reviews, but decided to dive in anyway. We were very pleased that we did.
The room was on the small side, but had a dresser, small table, a king bed (we were told it would be a queen), fridge, coffee, and many other items. It was also very clean and neat. The best surprise was a duvet cover on a nice comforter that they wash and replace after every stay. No concerns over what nasties might be on the blanket or bedspread!
The hallways and stairs in the hotel depict an older Cape Cod Motel. They are a bit worn and the doors are not what you would call airtight and substantial. However, the room was well appointed and the staff was very friendly and helpful.
The Surfside is a bit far from town center. That is both a positive and negative. If you want to lounge by the pool or go out on the beach in front of the hotel, it is quiet and nice. They will even serve beverages from the bar at poolside ... just hit a button and they appear to take your order. It is also close to the east end galleries which is great. On the other side, walking back and forth is a hike. There are plenty of options for public transport, but walking was our mode of choice.
One other thing ... it is pet friendly. That can be scary because it often indicates that it will also be "crunchy" and smell a bit like wet dog. Not the case at all. If we had not seen that before we arrived, we never would have known.
I can't begin to tell you how much we enjoyed our stay. Everything was perfect. The owners and guests that we met were very friendly and helpful. I will be back as soon as the opportunity arises! The room we had was on the beach and very...

We stayed here the last day of Carnival Week, only so that we could stay the extra day and watch the parade. What a mistake!! At first we were impressed, that was until we got up to the room. First of all, the room had 2 doors, and we were never told what door to use, and therefore spent more time then we should have had to, trying to open the door. My partner thinking you had to add some force to the door, ended up bruising her had on the door. When we finally got in the room, the room was so small, at the most 10 by 10. There was only enough room for the bed one dresser and one end table, there wasn't even enough room for the TV to sit on a table, the TV actually had to be put on a wall mount to be able to fit in the room. They go by the "towels and linens done at the end of your stay" motto, which was fine because we were only staying for the day. But at least 2 towels that we had been given had yellow stains, god only knows what they were. And to top it all off their business ethics are far from fair. We were in our room all of maybe 2 hours throughout that day we stayed, and at that point the A.C. was working. When we returned at about 1 a.m. the AC wasn't working at all. When I called the front desk, the phone was automatically directed to a staff, and she told me that she didn't have anyone in maintance and that she would come up and look at it. When she got there she said that she didn't have anyone on for maintenance and she didn't have a room to move us to, so the only thing that she could do was give us back our money. So we told her we would take back our money since it was such an inconvience and we had to get some sleep before driving back home 5 hours to NY. She said fine and we asked her if she had a fan we could use in the mean time since we had no AC. At first she said she didn't have one, and then she said that she would go check and look in the basement. She came back rather quickly with a fan and then disappeared just as quick and left us. The fan she gave us she didn't even bother to clean it. It was caked with what seemed like years of dust, it took at least 15-20 minutes to get it fully cleaned off. It was all over the floor, all in the bed and all over the balcony, after I tried blowing it outside. Now my partner has very bad asthma and allergies and never should have had to come into a situation like this, nor should anyone be. That night was very uncomfortable, and several times during the night I tried to see if the AC was up and running and it never was, we couldn't even open a window because the only windows we had opened onto a public balcony. The next morning when we went to check out, we told the clerk that she had told us that she was going to give us our money back. She said that she never said that and that we were putting words in her mouth, she told us that she said that if we wanted to leave that we could and then she would refund our money. The she proceeded to tell us that the reason our AC wasn't working was because someone tripped a breaker. Then when we asked her why everything else in our room worked and everyone else had air, she couldn't give us an answer us and avoided the question all together. We were made out to be liars in front of the staff and the customers in the lobby. She never kept to her promise to give us back our money and only took off some money. She never should have told us that she was going to give us back our money if she had no intentions.
