I spend the weekend of March 8th 2008 at this resort and I was
not impressed and very disappointed.
At check in...I seemed to be an inconvenience to the desk clerk...maybe just a bad day but still...
After a long drive I was looking for a little time in the hot tub as a
relaxing experience...it was out of order......that evening I went to get ice
from the ice machine....it was out of order.....and ended up going to the bar to get ice.....I along with 2 other guess were on an ice quest.... and they also mentioned it would have been nice to know the hot tub was out of order......
I turned on the fire place...and for the first 10 minutes the room had the smell of gas....it eventually went away after the windows and the front door were left open....sort of bad that in order to warm the room....I had to open the windows and doors. And the room smelled of mildew.....
The bathroom door was stuck, took my wife several minutes to figure out you had to lift up on the door to get it to open. We went out for a short while...only to return and find the room key cards (2 of them) stopped working and I had to have them reset. Again...the desk clerk seemed inconvenienced.
The easy chairs in the room were one of the most unstable I had ever sat in...well....it actually tipped sideways ....more of a safety hazard then someplace to sit and relax.
The bed had to be one of the most uncomfortable I had ever slept in....
The pluses...the room was spacious...the view was nice.....and beach access was great....the staff was friendly....except for the one desk clerk...the lounge closed at 9 pm...
The facilities is just run down and not worth the price.
When we left I was asked how my stay was..... I said very little since it was
not the staffs issue that the facility is not up to par...and when things like
the hot tub and ice machines are down...and from my understanding..had been for some time....should be mentioned on the web page or at check in. I don't enjoy paying for amenities that are "out of order".
In short...I should have stayed at the Waves in Newport where I normally do.....
Sorry....The Surfrider Resort is way overrated and overpriced for what is
offered... a room that needs updating and amenities that are out of order.
