the views from the room were simply breathtaking and the room was great, with modern decor. we've never been to hawaii, but i imagine this is as close in california that we're ever going to find.

We can't say enough positive things about this resort. We stayed for one night as a getaway from LA. We were automatically upgraded to an ocean view room on arrival and a complimentary bottle of champagne was brought up with our luggage. The view of the ocean from our room is the best we've had in California... It reminded us of Maui. We had a drink in the bar (and one of the better crab cakes we've enjoyed) that is literally at the water's edge and doesn't have a bad seat in it. The restaurant, Splashes, is first- rate and also has a great view of the ocean. Compliments to the chef for using fresh ingredients to make delicious CA cuisine without over-salting or sweetening. We planned to go to French 75, a well-liked restaurant across the street from the hotel, but decided to stay once we saw the view.

The only glitch we experienced was a minor problem with the hot water in the room. When we called the front desk, they offered to help AND sent a bottle of ice wine with a selection of fantastic sweet bites AND gave us a free movie rental on the TV. The wine was accompanied by a hand-written note from the front desk. The staff for the hotel and restaurant were all fantastic... always helpful and friendly but never intrusive.

It’s a beautiful hotel at a great beachside location. It has a friendly and helpful staff. It was an all around great experience.

I liked the view. I liked the pool and the beach service. I liked the restaurants in the hotel.

I had a great experience at the Surf and Sand. Not only did the folks at the counter treat me great, they took the time to find a great room for me. The owners were both helpful and courteous and very visually appealing. They gave me tips on some great restaurants and helped my friend to find a dentist the next morning.
