31 year old man with a budget, traveling for leisure

PROS: Cheapest "branded" hotel by far. Free parking for duration of stay. Reliable $2 minibus service to/from NYC (30-45min trip). Hotel was clean with free wireless internet and free breakfast.

CONS: Won't suit people who expect more than a budget experience for budget prices.

As a group of four university students trying to make ends meet, we really wanted to spend a few days seeing New York, but at the same time not to spend so much that we would be living off Ramen Noodles for the next six months!

I researched hotel prices in New York, and most seemed to be well out of our price range. Just a couple of miles outside of New York, over the state border into New Jersey, and prices become a lot lower. For the four of us, we had a four night stay for just over $400, so, by breaking this down; it is just $25 per person, per night!

Living in Ohio, a 9 hour drive would be much cheaper than flying to New York... but then, where could we park our car for the four days? Well Super 8 Motel gives resident guests free parking for the duration of their stay. They couple this with a $2 minibus express service, which assists both hotel guests and local commuters to get into New York City. I found the service very reliable, with a bus arriving within 15 minutes outside the lobby. The bus takes you right into New York Port Authority (the main bus terminal), gate #51, which is where you can get a return service back to North Bergen until approx 11pm. Just to clarify, the bus does not drop you back directly in front of the Super 8 Motel (where it picks you up), but drops you next to a Toys 'R' Us store about 300yds north of the motel. A 2-3 minute walk and you are there. It is all next to a busy road, so unless you are a single female, I really don't think there is much to worry about.

In terms of the hotel, you really do get what you pay for. So if you are expecting the Ritz, you will be sorely disappointed. What you get is a basic, tidy room with a TV, an iron, and bathroom... and a one or two beds. It was perfectly comfortable to spend four nights in there. Yes, the breakfast is as your would expect, dosing yourself up on cheap sugary products (doughnuts, cereal, waffles, toast etc), and worse drinks, but taking it all into perspective, it was much better than we imagined it could have been. By spending the time at Super 8 Motel, they gave us a nice roof over our head for four nights, and saved us hundreds of dollars. Thank you so much Super 8!

Reason I say terrible let me start by a list

1. NO ONE CAN SPEAK ENGLISH WELL. You need something to be looked at ex. fridge they come up look at the tv have no idea cause they did not understand. Then when you point to a frige the person sits on the floor open looked said no problem. Right it took 2 times to get a fridge that did work. First room not working, second room not working, third fridge brought in and they were not happy for doing it for me. Even swore. Yes swore.

2. Parking terrible. Cannot turn around real pain.

3. Breakfast a joke, offered but taken away by 10.00 am. hey it is NYC go out late sleep a bit please. god

4. Bus told it stops at their door, guess what depends on the driver. We were standing there and he went right by us. Ignored me and my two young boys. I went in told them, she then says the actual pick up is up the road and i will tell you it is a walk. She said they do not have to stop here depends on the driver. So false advertisement.

5. Drops off way up a hill so you have to walk some ways to get back and at night not to pleasant. Especially when you have two young kids and you are a women a lone.

6. Seem to not care make the customer feel they are wrong as stated.

7. Get this, needed toilet paper, most hotel cleaning men or ladies will give you a roll if you need one and go there to ask, well their cleaning lady said no she would not i would have to go to the other side of the building to get one since she was not our cleaning lady. can you believe that!!!

8. Asked if ok to stay one extra hour past check out time, sure no problem but pay.. Most hotels i have been to say fine not a problem if only one hour or two more.

9. Internet service sucked. Would not work for me unless i went right to the box. Told me i was the only one, SURE...

10. OH and lets not forget the bugs in the tub drain. Fill the water, take a bath then find them floating around dead..

I stayed there one time and said ok i will try agian one more time. This time was it. I will not stay there again.. NEVER. STAY AWAY.

45 year old woman with a economy budget, traveling for leisure

I along with my family came to visit New York City. Had gone through the reviews on various sights which were not very good though. Only for the strong recommendation from a few friends booked for Super 8 inn North Bergen NJ/NYC area.

Arrived at the Super 8 on 8:50 am, upon entering the lobby noticed people having their breakfast. Smelled good but had to hold on to the temptation as we were not checked in as yet.

The front desk greeted us with a smile name I think was "Krystal" a Gentleman at the back assumed to be the owner was looking at some paper work. We were informed that there was nothing available and that the check-in time was not until 3pm. We wanted to pay for the room, park our car and then move on to see NYC. The clerk was happy to help. Took our ID and credit card. She gave us some paperwork for directions to go to NYC very well explained on the paper with neatly and thoughtfully drawn out Map. The bus to catch from the lobby to get into the city every 10 minutes @ $2 charge (we did not believe at that time) but it was true as was said. Return bus leaves a block away as for the one way street situation.

As we finished paying for the rooms in gentleman raised his eyes from the files and smiled at us. Came forward and greeted us. We asked him if there was any Indian restaurants around. To our surprise he not only guided us to the place but helped us make our program for the day. He also offered us to have breakfast if we liked to. We were moved.

We stayed 3 nights and felt at home. Cleanest motel we ever visited. Guest service was too good to be true. Although they constantly had phone calls coming and guests coming to extend there nights and checking out. But the few minutes of that busyness of there's made our trip unforgettable.

Thanks Ashok .......

We will always recommend you. And feel truly sorry for the unsatisfied people and there adverse remarks.

Upon a 9:00 pm arrival, the front desk staff acted as though we were bothering them. Then they double charged us. We didn't find that out until we got home. They told us very quickly where our room was so, when we asked them to repeat it, she got upset and raised her voice.

The room itself wasn't bad actually but if the window was open, you got the traffic heading into the Lincoln Tunnel. It was clean and the shower was the best part of the room. Calling down to ask the front desk a question was a joke, but the delivery food service we used was wonderful. The menu was provided in the room, a little Italian place, and Dominos delivers late.

The shuttle service into New York City was easy, cheap and quick but the returning trip was a nightmare! We tried to get the partially English speaking driver to stop and he didn't. We ended up in Clifton, NJ and had to cross the street to catch yet another shuttle. When we saw the hotel sign, we had to yell, go up to the front, and show him where we needed to get off. That was an hour and a half trip we didn't have time for! We only needed to go 5 miles. We did get two views of the Meadowlands. I'd only stay here if I had to, and I hope I never have to.
