Avoid this hotel at any cost! My wife also made the mistake of booking the wrong Super 8 and what a mistake it was. We have traveled extensively and have never had a hotel experience as bad as this. Our problems began as soon as we arrived.
The lobby: Shabby, hot, and had a very strong curry odor.
The room: The carpets were stained and had obviously not been vacuumed. The bathroom door was broken and missing the handle. The bathtub sloped at an odd angle and was very slippery. There was a large, rather dirty 1980's era microwave that occupied the bulk of the usable counter space near the sink. Below that, in a hole cut directly into the counter, sat an equally dirty refrigerator perched on a homemade wooden stand. Every washrag and towel that we were in the room, and each set we subsequently received, were permanently stained. The beds were smallish and very uncomfortable. The air conditioner was loud and rattled constantly. The unit also lacked the ability to maintain a consistent temperature, requiring contstant adjustment throughout the night. The back of the remote control to the TV was broken and held together loosely with a piece of tape.
Location: The only good thing I can say about this hotel is that it is within walking distance of one of my favorite Lubbock resturaunts - Riversmith's and a short walk from a new Wal-Mart. But even that must be balanced with the fact that there is a derelict looking vacant building next door and that there is currently an active roadway construction site adjacent to the buliding.
Amenities: The continental breakfast consisted of cereal, suspect milk, coffee, and orange juice. The ice from the ice maker was peppered with flecks of dirt. The layout of the parking lot made parking difficult and potentially hazardous.
Service: Our stay was from Friday night until Monday morning, during which time our room was not cleaned. Enough said.
Bottom line: This hotel is unacceptable at any price!
We reserved this room over the internet, and were unfamiliar with this area. Normally we would have something positive to say about even the worst of places, but in this case we didn't even bother to stay 30 minutes after entering the room, and asked for a refund! This room is not in a safe area, was never cleaned as there was, what appeared to be, dried chicken, of all things, on the very dirty carpet. I reached to turn on a light and the lampshade literally fell apart! They had cut out an opening from the vanity area and placed a very small refrigerator in the too big opening ,and it was leaking and not clean, next to it, under the sink, we found roach baits! The lighting was poor, and there was dried milk on the dresser. The bed itself sagged, and we felt as if they had only pulled the spread over the bed and never changed any linen. The bathroom, however was very clean and very small. Our entry door was not secure as we simply pushed it in. The outside lighting was barely there, and it appeared that this motel was used by people to actually live there. The only ice machine I saw was outside in the heat, and the fan was not working, which indicated possible slime in the ice machine! All rooms are entered from the outside, and the motel looked very wore down. Yes, we immediately asked for a refund, and in fact, when we checked in, the manager asked us to try one night and if we were not satisfied, he would refund us. He kept his word, but as we said, we left within 30 minutes! We do not recommend this facility, and we will never stay in this area at all. We have stayed at numerous Super 8's, and never have had a problem until now. Instead we drove to the other side of town to a brand new Super 8 and were thoroughly pleased, for $9.00 more, it was very well worth it. We recommend the other Super 8 all day long. As they say, you get what you pay, for so be prepared if you stay at the cheap motel.
