On Thursday, July 19, 2007- A friend and I checked into this place around 1/1:30 in the afternoon. We planned to stay one night. Upon arrival, the owner checked us in and refused to let us pay credit. He told me he'd get charged 3%, and only allowed me to use a debit transaction. Now I know why.
(We also had to pay a 40 cash-only deposit which i was never previously informed of, for a city parking pass which was worth nothing since we had to park 7 blocks from our hotel!)
Our room was a very small efficiency apartment w/ a double bed. It had a dishwasher full of dirty rotting smelly dishes, that (no joke) stunk up the entire room. We had to request Lysol or Febreeze, and dishwashing liquid to try to make the smell go away. (So far, we were not impressed but figured we'd make the best of it.) We looked for about 1 hour for parking, finally found it 7 blocks away. Then we headed to the beach.
When we came home 2 hours later---to try to shower off, the tub filled up with water and would not drain, preventing us from cleaning up! We had to go to the front desk yet again, and they came over and plunged out the shower, then used Drano. The owner came to our room, didn't acknowledge us, and I spoke to him and told him we were really unsatisfied, and we would really appreciate a full or partial refund, that we would not be staying the night after all. This was around 5 in the evening. The owner literally screamed "No" at me, and slammed the door in my face. No joke! I was completely floored, and could not believe his behavior. The manager of the hotel (a young man) begged us to stay and said he was sorry, but they didn't do refunds because this type of thing happened a lot and he hated working there! I have yet to receive any compensation.
I called my bank, to try to stop payment on the room and they told me that because I'd used debit instead of credit, it had come immediately out of my bank account. If I had used credit, the transaction would be pending, and I could stop payment. I am now disputing this transaction, and taking all action I can against this filthy, horribly managed and owned hotel that I honestly would not have even stayed at for free! My friend and I ended up driving all the way back to Maryland (3 hours away) because we had no where else to go. Our trip was totally ruined.
