Hotel Sultanahmet Sarayi -Sultanahmet Palace- is the only hotel in the old city with its large garden facing directly blue mosque and enchanting with its unique old mansion looking architecture. The major highlights and historical sights -i.e. St Sophia/ Hippodrom/ Topkapi Palace/ Archeological museum/ Underground Cisterns and many more- are only 3-5 min. and grand bazaar 10 min. away on foot. Mosaic museum is just across the road. Standard room size is between 15-20 square meters. All rooms are with en suite WC/ ottoman hammam style bathrooms covered with marble. The hand-held shower is also available and there is no bathtub in our rooms. There are 6 deluxe rooms and they are larger than standard rooms -21-26sqm. 3 of them are facing directly blue mosque and the other 3 deluxe rooms are with private balcony and overlooking the entrance of the Bosphorus and Marmara sea along with Asian shores and Princes islands. Although we are centrally located we can still offer tranquility.

The worst nightmare of this vile place, Sultanahmet Suites, is the rude and hostile owner.
This apartment has only one staff - the owner, and offers no service at all, and has no facility other than the room itself - extremely low value for money and worthless.
Oh, and the owner is such a nasty person! He is too incompetent for "hotel management". He is too vulgar and has zero qualification for any customer service-oriented businesses. He does not deserve to be running any business with such an arrogant and loathsome attitude. In every business, customers are the king, but this uneducated and useless owner thinks he is the king. He misbehaves like a tyrant, insults and threatens guests with offensive language. It is really appalling.
The owner and his wife write false reviews online, using various pseudonyms, such as "gelincik", "josehine009" and "behonest" (a laughable name), and attack people who write critical reviews about this apartment. They even posted privacy information of former guests online as a revenge!
Everyone, don't waste your money. Don't get harassed. Just avoid this place. OK? I warned you!

About Sultanahmetsuites, Istanbul, Turkey:
I would not stay here again nor recommend this place to other travellers. Please read my personal experience and make your own decisions.
1) Broken promise
The owner promised a late check-out, but, after 6 days, said, "I changed my mind. You have to check out at 12, because I got a reservation from another guest. If you want late check-out, you must PAY."
2) Hidden Cost
I calmly asked him not to charge an additional fee for credit card payment, which he did not tell me at booking. His response was, "You have two options! PAY or go to the POLICE!!" "You don't deserve to be treated well!!"
3) Safety and Security in question
This flat has no staff other than the owner himself. So, if something happens at this mostly unattended building, guests will have nobody to count on. I find it very risky to stay at such a place. Far from a "family atmosphere" claimed on some sites. Just the opposite.
4) Facts of this flat
- There is no lift. This is a 5 story building.
- Far away from anywhere, located at the bottom of a steep slope. It takes about 15 30 minutes to get to major attractions.
- Kitchen is NOT fully equipped. No oven, no large pans, nor a right set of tableware.
- The entrance area and the street gets pitch dark during the night.
- Wireless system was down during our entire stay. We requested this to be fixed, and the owner shouted that he'd done everything he could. The system remained dysfunctional.
- No telephone in the room.
- This "hotel" has only the rooms. There is absolutely no other facilities.
5) After coming home
When I posted a review on a travel forum, the owner immediately called my home over and over at 1 a.m. midnight and left the following message on my answering machine.
I tell you something. I will go to your embassy. I have all the copies of your e-mails and everything. You only have 48 hours to clean up what you have written about me to tripadvisor. So you either do that, or I will be a trouble for you. (tape-recorded)
I ignored this and kept the review. Then he and his wife posted our private information on the internet.

To make sure you won't end up in a wrong place.......
Sultanahmet Suites must be avoided by any tourists at any cost. The owner of this property mistreats and threatens his guests. He and his wife expose privacy of guests on a public travel site - very strange people. They are unethical and hostile.
In August this year, I stayed at this place. The owner seemed mentally unstable and was having difficulty managing his anger. He would yell at and threaten guests when things did not go his way and was irritated. Later I wrote about him on a travel site. Immediately after that, my phone rang. It was 1 a.m. at night. I answered the phone, and heard a loud voice shouting at me. It was the owner of Sultanahmet Suites. â?I tell you something. I will go to your embassy. I have all the copies of your e-mails and everything. You only have 48 hours to clean up what you have written about me. So you either do that, or I will be a trouble for you.â? This is a tape-recorded message he left on my answering machine. His wife also sent me a threatening e-mail. Then the owner and his wife resorted to dirty tactics. They made up a story about me and my boyfriend and exposed it as private lives of us on a public forum. But forum participants reacted as follows:
"This is a very serious invasion of privacy by a Hotel Manager into the private lives of hotel's guests. Ladies and Gentlemen, It seems that if you want your private lives be exposed in public forums, you should stay at Sultanahmet Suites a couple of days. This is a very sad affair. "
"To violate the privacy of guests is the last straw for any hotel managers, and I certainly will not mention this property to prospective visitors nor will I speak positively of it in the future."
"The owners of Sultanahmet Suites do not have the capacity, skills, training, and especially goodwill to run an establishment be it in Sultanahmet or anywhere else.â?
For details of the threats and other unethical misconducts committed by the owners, please read tripadvisor Istanbul forum, "Don't stay at Sultanahmet Suites" and "Busy-Retired - Sultanahment Suites".

In the shadow of the Blue Mosque, just blocks from Hagia Sophia and Topkapi is a small elegant hotel, with about thirty rooms, a terrace overlooking the Sea of Marmara and a good restaurant. The service is very personable.
Each room has a little mini-Turkish bath, a shower with a big urn to fill with water and scrub yourself. Breakfast is included, and they have a very nice buffet. Taxis, ferry schedules, and other tourist information are readily available.
