I entered into a three month lease on a small studio for $1075 with the promise that the rent would be reduced if I stayed longer. When I arrived there was no murphy bed as promised so I stayed in a hotel to not sleep on the floor. I was guaranteed that there was no asbestos but
frying asbestos was hanging from the bathroom fan and the apartment was rank with cigarette odor. In the middle of my third and last month I was called with an illegal rent increase of 20 percent due on
April 1, 2009. I did not accept this increase (I was told at lease signing that my rent would decrease if I stayed longer than three months) and was told that I should pay the increasse or vacate at the end of my term or I would be in violation on April 1. I resigned my apartment and now six months later the management is trying to collect $1300 illegally for rent and the increase that I do not owe. I wrote and resigned my contract at the end of my term after their illegal increase. They are now threatening to ruin my perfect credit. This company is unethical and illegal.
Probably wanted me to leave because I wanted the apartment painted and the asbestos removed. I have never had a problem with any real estate company and I have had a real estate license for over 30 years. GO ANYWHERE BUT THERE.
