Blood spots, water stains, bad owner – Posted Jul 17, 2009

Horrible
male with an economy budget, traveling for leisure

Save money and find equivalent accommodations at a homeless shelter. The staff was nice enough and apologetic, but every room we went too was dirty, and leaky and gross. Left after one night but owner wouldn't refund the second night I shouldn't have paid for when I checked in.

pros: locationI was here two weeks - living and working. Would have been gone sooner, but I stayed there through Gustav.

Do NOT give them a credit card - they will charge as many bogus fees that they can get away with. Go to google...

Okay

My wife and I have stayed at St. Vincent's three times over the last few years, and we saw big improvements from last year. Our room had recently been redone, and the hotel felt warm and inviting, as it felt in 2002 when we first found it. The pool...

I cannot emphasise enough not to stay at this disgusting place . I arrrived and was shocked the place is even allowed to trade. It is in a slum area with derelict housing and people. The permanent guests at the guesthouse need a good wash etc. The rooms are the worst I have ever experienced. The price was a total rip off. I paid a quarter ofwhat I paid here in Las Vegas and Orlando for great accomodation. The rooms had cockroaches, derelicts hanging outisde at odd hours, the room stunk of tobacco and cigarettes, lights did not work not die the tv and the air conditioner did not work. My mate and I were so depressed by the place that we decided to get out 2 days early and escape to Orlando. The worst travel experience of my life. Do not go to this place unless you want to experience the lowest point in your life.

The Real New Orleans – Posted Mar 30, 2008

St. Vincent's Guest House is

the only place I know of with the real ambience of the New Orleans I used to know: it is in an old building(1861) which is restored properly in true New Orleans style. You feel at home there, the staff is helpful and friendly, the rooms are large and comfortably funished--and there is no plastic in sight! Wicker furniture, big beds, if you need anything just ask the staff or Peter, the owner, who made the place into a hotel in 1994.

The people I meet at St. Vincents seem to really love New Orleans. You can make a friend at the swimming pool, or just hang around the reception desk to chat. There 's usually coffee in the morning, but if not there's a very good, (also friendly) coffee house right across the street, and the Magazine Street restaurants start within a few blocks. It's downtown just at the beginning of the Garden District, near the Quarter but away from the glitter and noise.

Don't go to St. Vincents if you want a fancy, saran-wrapped visit to New Orleans, this is for people looking for a comfortable and friendly place, easy to love, in The Big Easy.

I was very happy with this hotel. It was clean with a very pleasant staff. If you want room service and cable it is not the place for you. All I wanted was a comfortable bed and a bathroom in a good location. I got everything I wanted.

Do not stay here – Posted Jan 02, 2008

Horrible
35 year old female with a moderate budget

I have stayed at the St. Vincent's Guest House twice it the past 8 months. Both times as a volunteer working to rebuild New Orleans after the devastation of Hurricane Katrina.

The accommodations are sub-par to say the least. When we were there in May '07 our shower head did not work. Which was okay seeing as how we were in New Orleans to work not lounge around. And we just used a cup and the tub faucet and we were fine. There was at least one domestic disturbance that took place outside the front of the guest house and did wake up some of our fellow volunteers. Also, a cockroach ran across my face while I was sleeping. You definitely had the feeling you should keep your shoes on in the room.

Our organization felt it was a decent enough place to stay on our return trip in December. We again had 17 people and several vehicles and St. Vincent's could accommodate all of us at a reasonable price (lower than the advertised price). When we arrived the staff had little knowledge that we were coming and had to scramble to put rooms together for us. (Not all room have heating, A/C). The first full day of our trip rained and we were not able to do the volunteer work we were scheduled to do for homeowners in the area. Since we had nothing to do we offered our services to St. Vincent's. They happily agreed to have us paint a guest room and several pieces of furniture. And we were happy to feel useful. Thinking we had established a great relationship with St. Vincent's we were shocked to be asked to leave one night early. You see it was New Years Eve and the day before the Sugar Bowl so they could get more money for the rooms. Mind you, we had booked through the first but apparently that was not good enough for them. We then had to find new accommodations on the busiest night of the year in New Orleans. Nice way to treat those who are trying to help you out.

St. Vincent's is definitely not worth the advertised $74/night for the conditions of the guest house nor for the attitude of the owner.
