I checked into the St. Gregory Hotel. It was completely dark, although no staff mentioned this odd situation until I did. I was told the electricity was temporarily down, and that it would be up soon.
During a 16 hour period, the electricity was on for 45 minutes. During that time, the room was too dark to see anything, one couldn't watch TV, plug the computer in, etc. The phones also were non functional, so you couldn't call the front desk. The water was also freezing cold, no hot water at all in very cold February weather, so one couldn't even take a shower without it being excruciating (if one wanted to do that in the dark).
There was also no heat, so it was cold in the room all night. We requested a flashlight, candles, anything (having to walk to the front desk since the phone didn't work) they didn't have any.
Would they put us up at another hotel, no, they wouldn't do that either, "we're working on it." They continued to maintain everything wasn't their fault, while making no effort to try and ease the situation of their guests. I asked to speak to the manager, but he has yet to contact me.
If some effort had been made, for example going across the street to buy flashlights from the drugstore for the guests, I would not be so mad. Instead, the staff was indifferent to their customers. Unfortunately, I had prepaid on the internet for this room. Of thousands of hotels over many decades I've stayed at, this was hands down the worst experience ever.
