Spruce Lodge was built in the early 1900's. We are guessing around 1910. It was purchased by my grandparents in 1949. My grandfather traveled a lot for his job and my grandmother stayed in Lake Placid and ran Spruce Lodge as a tourist home where breakfast was not an option. We have over an acre and a half of property which borders a large pond at the back of the property. We think the main house resembles a large farmhouse which has a porch that stretches across the front of the building. Since I purchased the property in 1986, I have tried not to change too much from when my grandparents owned it. I have found that changes were necessary to keep up with the times. Most people describe my place as being cozy and homelike. This is bascially what I am after. The feeling I got when I visited my grandparents. I have updated the rooms so they all have private baths and a couple have queen sized beds. The rest have double beds. The Cottage, I rent out as one unit. It can sleep 6 comfortably with two more on a pull out couch. The Cottage was probably built at the same time as the main house. I understand that at one time, it was the workshop for the main house. I have done quite a bit of decorating in the Cottage. There are two bedrooms (one with a queen bed and the other with a queen bed plus a set of bunk beds) and a bath upstairs. Downstairs there is a livingroom with a fireplace, fully equipped kitchen and dining room. Guests seem to like the Cottage. November 2003, we added 4 townhouses to the property. They each have 3 bedrooms, 2 full baths, kitchen, diningroom & livingroom. The master bedroom & livingroom have a gas fireplace and the upstairs bathroom has a Jacuzzi. These units will be available to rent June 1, 2004. We are located inside Lake Placid, close to all area activities.

Hi,
My daughter and I stayed a month at Spruce Lodge and were over the moon. We come from New Zealand and were therefore a very long way from home so found the friendliness of Carol, Billy and Co. to be extremely welcomed.

Okay
Very reasonable way to see Lake Placid as most hotel rooms cost about triple what I paid per night. Not real familiar with BB's so my expectation of a TV in room may be unreasonable but I sure missed one late at night. Room had excellent bathroom,...

Okay
Adequate accomodations except our room had a double bed which was pushed up against a wall, so we would have to climb over each other to get in and out of bed.
When we arrived, not much of a welcome. No offer of coffee or tea, we felt...
