We're absolutely lucky to live in Salt Lake City and travel to Moab, UT several times each year, during spring and fall for weekend getaways. Staying at Sorrel River makes each and every trip worthwhile, just for the setting and scenery alone. In fact, we decided to have our intimate wedding at the ranch, knowing that our family and friends traveling from afar would just be awestruck by the location and attention to detail and service provided by the resort.
Our favorite rooms are the suites with in-room jacuzzi tubs, which are a treat after a tough day of biking or hiking in the Moab area. I've yet to take advantage of a massage while there, but keep saying, I will next time. While many of our friends are still into camping in Moab, we are growing to appreciate the finer points of comfortable beds and fine cuisine after a long day in the desert. The restaurant on site is by far the best offering in moab, but perhaps out of place at the same time, since casual (but good) fare is typical of the area, you won't find a restaurant as high end as the River Grill. A mix of fresh, high-quality and local ingredients are creatively prepared, which is expected among foodies like ourselves. A decent wine list provides selective pairings.
Probably the biggest drawback of staying at the ranch is the drive back into town or to visit the National Parks in Moab (arches, canyonlands). The twenty miles makes it somewhat difficult to do multiple activities during the day, unless you plan ahead. But, the resort itself is not located very far from the popular Fisher towers hike, Castle valley or the la sal mountain loop road, where the popular Porcurpine Rim trail starts, so there are things to do and see nearby.
