There aren't enough words to explain how much we enjoyed our stay at the Sir Francis Drake Hotel in SF. The location was great. The rooms were comfortable, clean and we loved how they were decorated. We were supplied with fresh linens and towels every day. The staff was polite, friendly, helpful and professional. The added bonus was the awesome Scala's Bistro that had an entrance off the lobby of the hotel. The food was so delicious. The staff was very accommodating, informative and also very friendly. Both the Sir Francis Drake and Scala's staff just couldn't do enough to make our first San Francisco experience a memory to treasue forever.

The Francis Drake Hotel ... where should I start? If you value sleep, steer well clear. Never mind that the "corner room with a view" on the fifth floor means half your view is blocked by the extended roof of the rest of the building below you, incl

This hotel offers everything: scalas bistro, fancy lobby with many people walking around, and even a fancy door man. It's very close to the cable car stop, and closer is union square. If you need a coffee: there's a Starbucks in the building.

This is just a nice hotel. My room wasn't huge but it was cozy and welcoming. It's not over-the-top luxury but you certainly don't feel like you're slumming there. Everything just went smoothly. Of course it's also located near the shopping/tourist center of the city with many options for food and beverage nearby. I find this site offers a great balance between having easy access to many things yet not being completely overrun with tourists. They have an excellent restaurant right on site as well. I had a great stay while I was there and look forward to returning.

Walk in off Powell Street, and immediately feel that you're entering an era of unassuming elegance. The staff is cordial, engaging, authentic. There is something achingly lovely about the hotel. The lobby bar makes the best pomegrante martini ever--not too sweet, with a twist of lemon that looks like art in the glass. There are wispy palms, gorgeous chandeliers, and yes, the rooms are smaller, more intimate and humble in the 1920s elegant sort of way. Bed is cozy. Starlight Room is dreamy if you can grab a table by the window. It's a great place for wandering around, looking at the architectural elements, design, and wishing you could just once run your fingers across the baby grande, sit by the fireplace, and listen instead to Macy Gray and music just the perfect counterpoint for the beauty of a hotel where you'd at least expect to hear As Time Goes By. But happy that you don't because all in all, it's pretty hip.
