This hotel is located within walking distance of almost everything downtown. It has the most comfortable beds in which I have ever slept. Service was excellent, and the staff was very friendly.

The Sheraton Gunter is one of the older but very enjoyable hotels in the heart of San Antonio. It suffers slightly by not being located along the famous Riverwalk, but it is really not that far of a walk to that popular tourism area. The exterior of the building block has a classical look with horizontal layers, though the modern glass-enclosed floor just above the ground level looks like a hideous afterthought. The lobby displays some interesting archival photos of the hotel, old-fashioned phones, and an old telephone switchboard just to emphasize the history of this property. The sitting area brims with country club class thanks to paintings, chandeliers, dark wood paneling, and upholstered seating. The service was pleasant at check-in and during checkout when a taxi was hailed for us to the airport. Our room was comfortable but a bit cramped when compared to modern hotels. The operable wood shutters for the windows were a nice accent in this room. The room was on the club floor, which allowed us access to the club lounge. We enjoyed the free breakfast in the morning and the complimentary snacks in the early evening. The attendant stationed here was very helpful with service and tips on what to see in San Antonio. There is an outdoor pool and small jacuzzi, as well as a small workout room for guests.
