This is the 2nd year in a row that our organization held a regional meeting at this venue. At the close of last year's (2008) meeting the hotel management was advised of several deficiencies. Sad to say, not a single one had been addressed after 12 months.
We always say that the housekeeping staff is the first line of defense against guest complaints. At this hotel, they miss a LOT. 1/4 of our attendees checked into rooms that had locked safes (either open or closed), non-draining sinks or tubs, defective lamps, floor outlets covered by carpeting, sharp carpet staples exposed at the entrance to the bathroom, defective climate control, old food left in room refrigerators and more. We also joked about the wine glass that was left atop a waste receptacle in the elevator lobby -- for 48 hours. How many hotel staff passed it by in 48 hours?
Room carpets are stained. Wallpaper is peeling.
The front desk staff is friendly and helpful. The hotel food is quite good.
The on-site signature restaurant is the Tun Tavern. Members reported arriving at the Tun to find several wait staff chatting among themselves while customers waited at the podium for seating. Customers were ignored while the staff continued to chat. The tavern was nearly empty at the time.
One member also reported that, perhaps the reason for the housekeeping staff's failure to note the condition of rooms is due to their yapping on the cell phones instead of working. Somehow, they've managed to do their work with one hand and one ear, but it leave much to be desired.
While this venue is good for business meetings due to the absence of transient casino traffic (it's not a casino hotel), the member complaints are becoming a distraction.
Next year's meeting will be held in AC, but likely at another hotel, even if it is a casino hotel.
This is a Starwood-owned property and not a franchise property. It should be in better condition.
