Loved - The pools, although not heated very well during chilly November weather as promised / The room quality (decor) / The relaxing and beautiful location of the property (harbor, views, etc...) / the overall indoor appearance of the hotel
Merely ok - the restaurant choices could have been better, as the only restaurant with truly good food was the steakhouse which is exorbitant in price, so not a very good option for daily meals if trying to stay on a reasonable budget / the customer service was not always "preferred" in level / cleanliness of the night table which hadn't been wiped off, along with a few hairs in our sheets, and the lobby bathroom could have been much better
Poor - the beds were comfortable if you were Fred Flinstone and wanted to sleep on a slab of rock...definitely not up to "preferred" standards / the lack of a shuttle to the islands / the promise of Kid Care when traveling as a single mother who therefore could not use the spa the entire time since Kid Care had been canceled, but not updated on the website to let travelers know this when booking / the snippiness of the guy in the towel hut who had to work on Thanksgiving and was not so nice when he informed me that the towels may not be available after 2:30 p.m. since he was closing up, and after all, it "...is thanksgiving." If you work in hospitality, unfortunately some of you get stuck working on holidays, and that is what the hotel is in business for! I used to work in the industry myself, and if you don't like it, then change jobs! Also, the snippiness of those in the spa on the one day I managed to go in for a massage (except the masseuse who was very pleasant.) And lastly, the BUG BITES!!!!! I know it may not be the hotel's fault, but what about screens on the balcony doors? And maybe you could spray the property to reduce infestations?
Overall, "Preferred" needs to re-evaluate their classification of this property for sure!
GREAT RESORT ACCOMADATIONS WERE EXCELLENT OVER LOOKING SANIBEL HARBOR. GYM ON PROPERTY LARGE AND CLEAN.CLOSE TO RED SOX SPRING TRAINING CITY OF PALMS PARK. LOTS OF GREAT RESTURANTS IN AREA.

Our stay at Sanibel was perfect. We most definitely will be back. First, they upgraded our room to an ocean view because our original room wasn't ready for us. The resort had 5 pools that we could use during our stay. Our balcony view was extremely relaxing and beautiful, especially in the mornings while we ate breakfast. The trip to the gym was full of nature as we walked on a bridge over a little creek. The fitness center was perfect for a quick workout, while the changing rooms provided the guests with all the necessities for showering. The staff was consistently nice and helpful. Our room was clean and serviced throughly daily. Also, the complimentary shampoo/conditioner had a wonderful tropical scent.
My advice to people that travel to the Fort Myers area: lather up with some bug spray because those bugs are brutal!
My only complaint is the food. The restaurants available on the property weren't very tasty for the money. I don't mind paying more for awesome food, but the food was just okay. I strongly recommend renting a car and cruising along Fort Myers Beach for some fish. Parrot Key Caribbean Grill is awesome and unique. Check them out when you go.
Stay at Sanibel Harbour and enjoy the beautiful atmophere!!

Sanibel Harbour Resort and Spa was a very nice place. My husband and I visited in June 2007 and were impressed. We read a lot of negative reviews prior to our visit and were leary about it until we arrived. A guard greeted us at the entrance to the property and at that point we knew this was going to be as nice as we had hoped.
We read about the sewer smell and the bugs that people were disgusted with. My rebuttal to that is that when you visit different places you will expereience things specific to the region and climate. The sewer smell someone referred to was the smell of the vegetation. There is a nature walk and mangroves as well as other plants that grow along this area. The smell comes from them. The bugs, well if you go on a nature walk what else can you expect? All of these sensations simply brought back fond memories of my childhood summers spent in Florida (even the no-seeums, which are tiny critters that look like specks of pepper but feel like a mosquito-use Skin So Soft and that keeps them away).
We would visit this resort again. We stayed at the Grande Bay which was nice because of the food spread three times daily, but seemed to be for older people. Next time we will stay at the main hotel where all of the action is. We are in our 30's and enjoy doing things, rather than just resting.
All in all our experience was great, although I was sick before we even arrived and had to cancel our spa experience as well as our dinner cruise reservations. Even being ill I found it very nice.
My husband and I thought Sanibel was very nice. We stayed at the Grande Bay, which seemed to be for older couples. The main hotel seemed better suited for younger couples and families. Although we enjoyed the 3 times daily food spread at the Grande...
Disregard the photos for your own good. I could make Compton, CA look good with the right angled shots and photo doctoring equipment. For the money it is not worth it. It's not to say my stay was terrible, but just average and I can get "average" at ...
This hotel was the worst we've visited in all our trips. First of all, the hotel is not even on Sanibel Island. If you want to go to the islands, you have to cross the toll and pay $6.00 each time you want to visit the actual Sanibel and Captiva...

Its in a beautiful location. Too bad the management is not customer service oriented. IO made reservations 7 months before my visit. We were sent to a dirty room in a satellite tower away from the main resort.
We had to ride to and from the main resort in the dirtiest golf card I have ever seen.
Management tried to get an additional $ 154.00 for spa visits that I did not reserve. My room number was enough to trigger the bill. It took over 1 hour to get the charges reversed. The manager refused to appear at the front desk.
I would recommend this resort to anyone who wants to be taken for a ride.
My husband and I had a wonderful 8 night stay at this resort, and every night (and day) was truly amazing. The staff at the desk and especially in the pool bar were extremely friendly and helpful. Our room was well accommadated and kept very clean....
