Ocean front room on the 12th floor. What a delight! NOT!!! More like a NIGHTMARE!
I arrived on Friday, 10-9-09 only to find an ashtray on the patio full of stinky cigarette butts. Spent most of Saturday on the beach only to arrive back at my room at 3:30pm to find it had been broken into and my camera had been stolen. I filed an incident report at the front desk only to hear that 2 girls had their purses stolen from their room the same day. This was an inside job no doubt. The maintenance guy said it appeared they used a screw driver to open the latch. The hotel says they are not responsible because I did not use the safe they provided in my room. I felt unsafe my last night knowing someone could enter my room using just a screwdriver. The hotel manager did eventually agree to refund my hotel charge for the 2 nights.
I hope they find who did this but I am sure they will not. Supposedly the little square mirrors in the halls are video cameras. I had one right beside my door but was told they did not see anything on the tape. My bet is that the video cameras are probably not even operating.
I mentioned this incident to the manager at River City Cafe in the hotel. He told me several horror stories of people getting their cars broken into in the hotel parking deck in broad daylight. One girl had all 4 of her rims stolen off her car just feet in front of this hotel.
This is an old building, not some fancy new place. It's crumbling and falling apart. Don't let the word "resort" fool you like it did me. Stay away from this clip joint!

The set up is great - ocean, indoor and outdoor pool all within yards of one another. Outdoor live music in the evening has perfect view of beach and and pool allowing parents to relax while watching their children. The rooms and the facility were in need of better maintenance and a good cleaning! Debris on the beach next to the pool deck and cigarette butts were abundant! Our room had the toilet backed up twice (when cereal was poured in) and we had a roach in our kitchen area! The rails all have peeling paint and the indoor pool and hot tubs had a slight green hint. The place would be awesome if cleaned up and given a good paint job!!!! Service was good and every time we needed maintenance (3 times in a week) they responded quickly.
Didn't get the room I requested. Front desk staff seemed put out at every question. Cleaning staff didn't make it to the room every day of our stay. Dishwasher leaked. Room size was small. Kitchen was equipped well. Decent ocean view. Ocean view is NOT ocean front!!!! If you want full ocean view make sure you are specific or you will NOT get it. Indoor pool not too clean. Distance to the beach is very close which was very convenient with the kids. Ice and laundry not on every floor. That was a pain. We were there for a baseball tournament and had to wash uniforms. Only 6 washers for 17 floors worth of rooms. One dryer broken so drying was a nightmare. This was not that expensive so I guess I'm saying you get what you pay for. If you are going just for the beach and don't care about ammenities it's a good value. If you want more than that, stay somewhere else!!!

Loved: location on the ocean was wonderful. Ocean Annie's was a delight. The lighted beach at night was great for the kids. Bellhops were especially courteous and friendly.
Disliked: condos need to be updated. Many of our families were initially placed in unclean condos and had to request to be moved. Housekeeping was very hit and miss. Sometimes they came and replaced towels and sometimes they didn't. Sheets in my condo were spotted with blood. Kitchen appliances were on their 'last legs'.

Room was outdated and not the cleanest. Did not get maid service for all days we stayed. Most of the electrical outlets inthe room did not work. The parking garage system is a pain. Not the easiest or safest place to enter and exit.

While the common areas were newer, yet still not maintained, the rooms and pools were disgusting. Our first room, room 1232 (a 2 bedroom suite) had slimy, greasy floors, crusty stuff on the couch and refrigerator, no towels except a dirty one stuffed in a drawer and a horrible smell. We were able to switch to another room, # 1223, that was at least cleaner. All of the rooms had very old and dirty furnishings. The front of the dishwasher was covered in rust. The balcony was dirty and cracked. I found human feces by the steps to the indoor pool and while I told the front desk, the pool was never closed. The outdoor pool had a gross, yellow foam in one corner and it was full of hair and other floating debris. There was a horrible smell in our hallway and a piece of pizza left on the floor for 3 days. I would NEVER stay there again.

Service was not great. No towels when I checked in, although some were brought up later. No trash or room service the first two days. Someone from the staff knocked on the door at 10:00 P.M. to see if anyone was in the room. Room did have a fridge and service got better as the week went on. Kids enjoyed the lazy river and pool. Live band played to 11:00 PM give or take. If you are a music lover, good. Free lunches were a nice touch.
While the view from the balcony was beautiful and the band was good the room was never cleaned! Leafs were on the floor when we checked in, the coffee pot was dirty. Our TV remote did not work. The sheets were stained. The matress on the sleeper sofa was stained with blood. The "fully stocked kitchen" had one only 1 fork, the rest of the utensils were spoons, and a couple knives. We were the victims of a theft and received conflicting information regarding how to proceed. All and all it was a disheartening, frustrating, and unpleasant stay in your Myrtle Beach hotel.

I really liked the amenities. The problem was this hotel is huge and needs more staff to take care of the needs of the people staying there. The furniture needs to be updated.
I am somewhat likely
to return to the Sands Ocean Club Resort.
I might recommend it to friends.
