Upon arriving at the airport we called to arrange for a shuttle (which we were told was included by the hotel rep we confirmed our reservation with). The women who we spoke with on the phone was extremely rude and informed us that we could take the ...

Excellent
Room was nice, one block to bourbon st, two street car lines right outside of hotel. Close to other downtown attractions. The parking ($15 a day) and mandatory fees ($6 a day) are the only real downside of this hotel.

We were guests at this hotel the night of 5/18/08. Our hotel room was entered by a hotel master key and several expensive electronic items were removed... these items were NOT sitting out, they were packed into our luggage as we were preparing to check out and leave New Orleans. We had packed up and headed down the street to grab breakfast before checking out. We returned to find things opened and missing. These items were not left out in plain site, our luggage was rummaged through. A police officer was onsite within 30 min (which we had to call) to take the report.
The front desk manager (Gabby) was very rude during the whole process. We were informed by her and "Aurthur" that they had to do a lock check... apparently this takes 3+ hours to do (???). At least 4 to 5 times during this process (waiting on the lock check and dealing with the police) we overheard her talking with housekeeping via radio if room "402" was vacated yet to so they could flip it. Very odd that the MANAGER on duty doesn't seem to recognize which room # was just broken into and the guests from that room are standing in front of her. She never seemed to recognize us each time we returned to the front desk.
As we wait, we discover at least one other room was robbed (9th floor) and the lady we spoke with was just as upset about the treatment by the hotel staff as we were. My guess is there were several more rooms hit, the guests had not returned yet to find items missing.
It is now 2 days later and the General Manager of the hotel will not return phone calls, although she did tell us yesterday that the lock check DID show it was a hotel master key that accessed our room.
I stayed at the Royal St. Charles on April 9-13, 2008. When I arrived, there wasnt a bellman. I was told by the front desk clerk that the bellman wasnt available and the guy working valet was too busy to take my bags to my room. The front desk clerk brought me the cart and told me that I could load my luggage and return the cart when I was finished. I loaded three bags and a laptop and the clerk proceeded to say that I didn't have a lot of luggage. I was very displeased with having to take my luggage to my room. I paid to stay at the Royal St. Charles not the Hoilday Inn so if I wanted to carry my own luggage, I would have stayed somehere cheaper.
One evening a guy was kicking on my room door at 3 am stating that he wanted sex and to let him in. I assumed that he was drunk and figured he would go away after realizing that he had the wrong room. After 10 minutes of kicking, I called the front desk to report it and they stated that they would be on there way needless to say they never arrived. As a single woman, this concerns me. What would have happened if he was able to get into my room?
26 year old female with a moderate budget, traveling for business
In all of the times that I've traveled, I've never experienced more incompetence than when I stayed at the Royal St. Charles. The "managers" gave our room away twice and suggested that four people share one bed. The rooms were also windowless, small, stained, and falling apart. Further, danishes and coffee do not equate a "full American breakfast." Although the location was great, the hotel experience was awful. Think twice before choosing this hotel.

They lost our reservation, expected 4 guests to sleep in one bed, refused to give us a roll-away, charged us a bogus charge, and were extremely rude through all of this. I travel relatively frequently and have NEVER experienced such awful customer service. This place is a dump!

UNDISCLOSED FEES:
They demand a $6.90/day resort fee that was not disclosed until arrival. It is supposed to include:
- Free WiFi; but the WiFi doesn't work. The Front Desk said, many guests
leech off nearby businesses. Otherwise; work in the lobby (few seats, no desks, no phones, NOISY bar.)
- Continental Breakfast was coffee & (day old?) sweet rolls. No fruit. No cereal. No yogurt. No milk. No juice. No water. I asked if there were nearby restaurants ... the Front Desk staff was profoundly stumped. After calling someone on the phone, they gave me incorrect directions to a restaurant that is not open for breakfast.
- Free local & long distance calls - Not. For three [3] days, whenever I tried dialing a local, long-distance or 800# ... I get a fast busy signal. They do not
seem to have any interest in fixing the problem. I have placed 5+ calls to the Front Desk.
OTHER GRIPES:
- Room carpets had large & serious stains. Wrinkles due to scrubbing
were so large as to be a trip & fall hazard.
- Dresser was missing two [2] drawers. Just big gaping holes where there should have been drawers.
- Only one of three elevators ever worked during my 3-day stay.
- Valet Parking took ~40 minutes to retrieve the car from gawd knows where.

Good
I was thrilled with the Royal St. Charles. New Orleans hotels can leave a lot wanting...not this one! Clean, well maintained, friendly and helpful staff. Terrific location. Can't wait to return.
