This is one of those "hotels" that was probably really nice in the late 80's and most of the 90's. Unfortunately, its 2008 and they haven't even changed the orange pastel curtains yet. Their televisions barely work, and their lamps are bolted to the dressers to give you the feeling of a one star motel in downtown Newark.
The old man (i would say in his 60's) at the check in office tried to give me and my girlfriend the one room in the entire hotel that has no view of anything but a concrete wall, room 318.
When we walked in there was a bedroom in the middle of the living room, no kitchen, and a college dorm style refrigerator. We had to go back to the desk and complain, by that time the old man was gone, and a lady (who was nicer) gave us a room on the fourth floor. She said she didn't understand why he gave us the worst room, there was plenty of space on the fourth floor with kitchens at no extra cost. He probably thought he could get away with sticking two 25 year olds in the crappiest room because we're young, ignoring the fact that we were paying almost $200 a night to stay here! Thanks pal!
We ended up staying for 2 nights and thought about staying for one more day because we were having fun. But when we asked about the rate add another night they gave us an even higher price than the previous 2 nights, and we know they had quite a few rooms vacant!! So we left and were better off, we headed to Atlantic City.
One last thing, there is a $150 security deposit that they do not tell you about over the phone. We put this on my girlfriends debit card and i had to call this past week to get the hold taken off because they were having a problem with commerce bank cards. We got the money back, but they knew about this problem with commerce bank and the old man neglected to tell us about it.
I would never stay at this hotel again unless the old man called me personally to apologize about being completely helpless and inconsiderate. In the immediate area there are quite a few nicer and cleaner looking places to stay, including the Diplomat (which has wireless internet) and Key Largo.
