with a budget, traveling for business

I wasn't expecting anything fancy. This is a Rodeway Inn after all. But the place was a mess. They have a retaining wall that's fallen apart and they haven't bothered to fix. Heck, they hadn't bothered to clean things up. It's one thing for the wall to fail but the least they could do is clean the mess up every now and then.

The stairs and hallways were in bad need of vacuuming. Yes, those are high traffic areas but you could see rocks, dirt, stuff, not only in the busy areas but how it had accumulated at the edges. This is something they hadn't done for several days if not weeks. Sound like speculation? I got in late, thinking maybe it was just a long busy day that caused the dirty stairs. I didn't roll out until 10am. When was a last time you were at a hotel at 10am and didn't see anything going around cleaning rooms? Surely it was late enough in the morning for vacuuming but nothing was being done.

Sure, it be by chance that one morning I didn't notice them. But my room looked like when they had vacumed they didn't bother doing the whole floor let alone occasionally getting into the corners. The room had fridge but it was dirty; I didn't want to put anything in it. One of the chairs was clearly dirty. And the cherry on top was waking up the next morning and seeing that the thin pillow cover had a big chunk missing from it on the other side. The kind of chunk that I find it hard to believe the person making the bed would miss. It's not a tear, it's a chunk. And even if the person making the bed misses it surely somehwere in the chain of things someone would notice, right? Well, that's assuming they care.

God knows they hadn't put in a head board.

I don't expect fancy but I except clean. This place was dirty enough that they had me wondering how long it was since they last washed the sheets.

It was a Saturday night in August and other motels in town had room. I'd stay anywhere else but the Rodeway Inn the next time I'm in Monticello.

Very quick check in.

Entrance area and the way to our room looked like a large garbage can.

Front Desk Manager: 'There are no more pillows left in the hotel.'

Later after finding approx. over 20 living insects (a rich variety: moth, wasps etc., between one and two inches in length) in the darker corners, behind the beds, in the shower, everywhere in this room. We contacted the young Lady at the front desk again. While inspecting our room we asked her if she would sleep in this room, with a smiling face she answered 'Yes, because there are no other free rooms in town', - how charming.

At 11 pm the manger explored our room with his 'turbo vacuum cleaner'.

5 more moth till sunrise.

I shouldn't do this a second time to my wife, I promised.

I am not likely to return to the Rodeway Inn and Suites.
I would not recommend it to friends.

I must say that the only reason that I did stay in this hotel was due to the unfortunate fact that all the others in town were booked. The help was quite simply (forgive me I know no other way to say this) lacking in the intelligence department. The "continental breakfast", if I may even call it that, was little more than toast and juice. Also, the rooms smelled of a questionable odor. It's no surprise in my opinion that this hotel lost its association with Super 8. How did I find this out? The unwitting staff. The hotel is now called Go West Inns. I wanted to give the real name so that people can stear clear of this shack of a hotel.

I am not likely to return to the Rodeway Inn and Suites.
