Highly mediocre, but in a great location

They have fixed it up, they have fresh paint, and new furniture.
The elevator is really lousy, but you get what you pay for. My bed was the opposite of firm, but at least the place was clean.
I checked out some reviews after I booked it, (also because there was no other places available) and was real worried. Keep in mind, all places in Philly charge a 15% percent hotel tax. The staff was helpful and polite.

They must have fixed this place up since some of the last review, because the rooms are pretty nice now. The price is right. And yes, the elevator is frightening.

The place was trashy, there was a leak in the bathroom because the person upstairs overflowed their toilet, the bedposts were broken, the door looked like it had been kicked in and not fixed properly, the walls were patched improperly, and the elevator was terrible, small and shaky, just completely trashy! I would never have spent a hundred dollars a night on such a bad place. They didn't even bother to do anything about the leak in the bathroom, not even clean up the bathroom.

Was not clean, they messed up our reservations so they only had one room reserved instead of two, there were people running in the halls all hours of the night. Elevator didn't work. Stairs were very narrow.
We called another hotel that night and they had rooms (more expense but well worth it). We left first thing in the morning. Staff tried to charge us for two days until manager stepped in. Stay elseware unless price is your only concern.

Stay somewhere else. Avoid this place

Do not be tempted by the low prices at this place. You get less than you pay for. The elevator is ancient and does not always work. The rooms are old (not quaint) and the furnishings are substandard. The staff was not at all helpful at resolving problems.

22 year old female with a moderate budget, traveling for business
I know the Rodeway is a budget hotel. But there are little simple things that could be done to make the guests feel more comfortable. I was charged by the front desk for an extra mattress. That is ridiculous considering what I got. The bed in the room was like cardboard. It was a very uncomfortable experience. However, I was pleasantly surprised by the breakfast in the morning.

I felt the room was expensive for the sparse its accommodations. The elevator was frightening.
This hotel made me feel practical: It was very bare-bones accommodations.

This was an exceptional value. It's a small, old, European-style hotel located within a few blocks of city hall in center city Philadelphia.

The best value was the location, which was central Philadelphia. It was within walking distance to the Constitution Hall and other historical sites. Otherwise, it was a rather ordinary facility, though with pleasant staff.

It’s an old, small hotel, with minimal refurbishment, but terrific location at a very good price. It’s right in the heart of center city Philadelphia for less than $100/night double occupancy.
