female with a moderate budget, traveling for leisure
We booked the Rodeway in June for our August trip. Truth be told the reviews were not impressive but we figured it could not be that bad and since we were going on a cruise we just needed somewhere close to the Port of Miami to stay and would only be spending two nights. Huh..........where to begin?
When we landed at MIA we called the hotel to request shuttle pick up. We were told that we would be picked up in 20 minutes as the shuttle went to the Port of Miami. No problem we thought. Half an hour later we called back and another 15 minutes after that, only to be told that the shuttle was almost there. When it was almost close to an hour of waiting I wanted to call back but I really did not want to deal with the rude woman that answered the phone. After the second call I started to feel like I was an annoyance to her. We waited a little over an hour from the time we called before an angry little man shows up, does not bother to greet us or help with our bags. We get in and the shuttle reeks of cigarette despite of the no smoking signs all over the van.
We arrive at Rodeway not quite sure of what to expect since the service appeared to be so bad and we did not even check in as yet. Apart from a very putrid smell that lingered outside the lobby, check-in was uneventful and the lady who dealt with us did not sound like the one we spoke to on the phone. She seemed friendly and helpful unlike the other lady kept throwing nasty looks at us which lead me to believe that she was the person on the phone. She, the lady who checked us in was the last friendly person we would meet at Rodeway.
We took our room keys and checked in and guess what, that scent from the lobby was in the room too. Being asthmatic and an allergy sufferer I quickly left the room after putting our things away. The room is a joke. The sheets had red stains and the pillow cases we stained too. You can actually feel the springs in the mattress poking you and hear them pop when you shifted your weight on the bed, the toilet seat was wet, the heat in the shower works intermittently, the AC was old and loud (we could not use it as it kept circulating the stink in the room), the TV reception was not clear, there was mildew on the tiles in the bathroom, the wallpaper peeling, need I say more?
I left for Bayside and my husband took a walk in the other direction. For hours I tried calling my husband and could not reach him. Why? Because the phone lines kept crossing with another room. I later found out that this happened occasionally. Later that night we try to get some sleep but the noise from the road and the heat in the room because we could not turn the AC on because of the stench kept us tossing all night but hey, at least there is complimentary breakfast.
Complimentary breakfast was another joke. The next morning we went to the front desk to collect our voucher for complimentary breakfast which happens to be a $10 coupon discount on breakfast. This coupon was to be shared by both my husband and I. After breakfast we went to Bayside to do some shopping. According to Rodeway's literature, the shuttle leaves the hotel to drops guests off at Bayside at 9:30 and will pick up guests at 5:30. My husband and I got to the pickup point at 5:15 and waited till 5:45 before calling the hotel, only to be told that we needed to call the hotel for pickup. We had to point out to the woman on the phone what the literature said. She told us that the driver would be there in 15 minutes. After waiting for more than an hour and calling the hotel repeatedly to be told that the driver had already left (from the hotel to Bayside is less than a 10 minute ride) we decided to take a taxi. As we head towards a taxi we catch a glimpse of the shuttle pulling up. Imagine our frustration when we find out from the driver that he was never called!
Apart from the above, the room keys never worked. Once we left the room and tried to go back in, we needed to bring the keys back to the front desk to be reset or reprogrammed, the woman in the room next to us had the same issue, yet they treated my husband like he was bothering them each time he had to bring the key back. When we booked online, we were made to believe that the room had an iron and ironing board. This is not true. We had to go to the front desk to be loaned a filthy broken iron.
Do not stay at the Rodeway. The customer service stinks as the rooms and the compound. Spend a little more and avoid all the hassles and the drama. You do not need this on a vacation. If the place was less than par but the service was nice I would not have bothered to write this review. But both suck and potential guests should know.

Horrible
This is the worst place I have stayed in over 10 years. The internet photos look nice, it was supposedly remodeled, is a decent price, and is supposed to have a free airport shuttle and a free shuttle to the cruise terminal. Those are the main...
It was one of the worst hotel experiences I ever Had. The room was not clean. Staff was rude. Flush in the toilet did not work. No shampoo in the toilet. No IRON box. AC does not work. Everything was CRAP!!

A Dump but a good location for me. I stayed here 3 times over a three month period when a family member was in the hospital--Jackson Memorial--which is right across the street from the hotel. Let me say that the proximity to the hospital is absolutely the ONLY reason to stay there. Other than this reason here are a number of the many, many problems with this hotel: (1) the stairs between floors appeared unstable and potentially hazardous (take the elevator instead); (2) the rooms are bleak--bring slippers since you will not want to walk on the rug, bring your own towels--I have seen better towels at my local carwash, consider bringing your own sheets--not clear that these are laundered regularly; (3) make sure to ask for a front facing room or you will be looking out on and hearing the freeway outside your window all night; (4) the staff is pretty much unhelpful and not proficient in English--luckily high school Spanish got me registered and some additional towels to supplement the lame ones in my room....and the list goes on. Other than the location, the other bright spot for this hotel was the restaurant. The Cuban items on the menu were particularly good. I would go back to this hotel but only if I needed to be able to walk to the hospital....otherwise this place is a dump.
I am not likely
to return to the Rodeway Inn Miami Airport.
I would not recommend it to friends.
The guys who said it wasn't that bad - are you nuts or are you part of the hotel staff. This is THE worst hotel I have stayed at and I have stayed at some pretty bad ones. The place was filthy and run down and I think if I had stayed another...

This hotel needed rooms and they cancelled all the online reservations. We traced it through the Days Inn management system and they apologized for the hotel.
