member icon Horrible service, huge room mixup

46 year old female with a moderate budget, traveling for leisure

I reserved a room two months in advanced for the Fourth of July night. I requested a balcony room and told them it had to have a balcony due to my having a very serious illness and not being able to go to the fireworks. I was assured I had a balcony room. I was so excited and anticipating this for months as I hardly ever get to go anywhere or do anything due to my physical handicap and limitations. I arrived and was put in a room with a little window all cemented shut. Called the desk and response was just basically "too bad". Horrible service, incompetant, inconsiderate, ruined a very important day for me.

They did not honor our reservation request. Desk staff were discourteous and lied about having the type room we reserved available. Referred to one couples luggage as "crap". Indifferent about assisting elderly guests in a timely manner. Witnessed all this while waiting to get checked in which was supposed to be at 4 pm but was not until 4:30 pm.

47 year old male with a moderate budget, traveling for business

I have stayed here four times in the last seven years on business. The staff tends to be young student types so they are not the most motivated or knowledgeable about tourist attractions. I suggest you do your own prior research or seek professional guidance somewhere else. I have overheard numerous tourist types become agitated when the staff did not have a ready answer.

I like the River Street Inn because it is a very historic and old structure with the quirkiness that an old building brings. The rooms can be small and cramped or large with a balcony (river view). It's mostly the luck of the draw unless you make your reservations well in advance with a "request". The two restaurants and bar are convenient especially if a summer rain comes about.

The hotel is on River Street so you can walk up and down to your hearts desire. You can walk or ride three streets west to see the real Savannah and avoid most tourists if you like. Parking is an issue; but not insurmountable.

Great
Southern-Belle icon Boutique hotel in a great location

42 year old female with a moderate budget, traveling for leisure

We've stayed at the River Street Inn in Savannah a number of times over the last 15 years. We weren't quite as impressed on our last trip in October 2006.

The reception staff wasn’t particularly helpful or friendly, they seemed distracted and had no interest in us as guests. Our room was so small, there wasn't much space to walk around and there was no surface space to put things on. We had one small window and no balcony. When we were taken to our room, there were linens piled in front of each room in the hallway that hadn't been picked up (and it was afternoon). Parking was in a city ramp a block away.

The positives: This is a historic hotel with a lot of charm, the happy hour canapés were wonderful, the location is right on the Savannah River, the side porch rocking chairs are great, and Huey's restaurant is located on the ground level. If we stay here again, we'll get a larger room with a balcony.

38 year old female with a luxury budget, traveling for leisure

Room was not cleaned properly, bathroom door was filthy and toiletries/coffee were not replaced. Turn down happened only 2 of the four nights. Room was very warm despite thermostat set at 59 degrees. We had to keep the curtains closed during the day to keep the sun from warming it even more. Mistakenly left a phone charger in the room and called approximately 1 hour later to inform. Never received a call back after calling 3-4 times. Spoke with manager 1 week later and was informed that they had a box of chargers and couldn't begin to find the match. Parking is an issue with only parking garage across the street and down the block (with a $6.00 per day charge for this!). No valet service available to reduce this problem. Elevator from River Street constantly broken, requiring guests to walk up flights of stairs to access room. Informed desk several times but no repairs made during entire visit.

I am not likely to return to the River Street Inn.
I would not recommend it to friends.
