I've stayed my fifth time at the Riu Florida Beach in March this year. The hotel has a great location and is so reasonably priced it's incredible. The Palms right next door charges twice as much for their rooms and none of them have balconies.
Now, here is a little caveat for most Americans: The staff is exclusively Cuban or Spanish. That means the service will have the typical non-American attitude. It won't be snappy all the time. To me, this is one of the appealing aspects of this hotel. It does not feel sterile like some others. The staff is incredibly friendly and personable and will go the extra mile.
Other highlights include the pool bar, breakfast buffet (do not stay here without having the opulent breakfast buffet) and the beach right outside the hotel. If you're looking for a place to kick back and relax and don't mind if things take a little longer, this is the place for you. Yes, you drink may take 10 minutes at the pool bar while the staff is singing along with a song on the radio, but who cares? You're on vacation!
Pro's - great location, lobby, breakfast buffet, pool and exercise room; valet parking efficient; right on bus line if you decide to go heart of South Beach 20 blocks south; close to 41st...
28 year old female with a luxury budget, traveling for leisure
My husband and I stayed at this hotel from October 3rd to October 10th 2007.
Let me start off my saying, checking in was speedy and the girl at the front desk was very nice. That's the highlight of the stay.
There was only one elevator in this midsize hotel, which is very annoying and out-dated, and it made a strange noise. When we got to our room, there was a musky smell, the ceiling fan squeaked and there were two "tiny" beds in the room. When I called the front desk, they said they only had four king size bed and that they mostly catered to Germans' who prefers sleeping in separate beds. If this is true, that's a very lonely thing. Can you believe this? And there were none available until tomorrow.
It gets worse. I lay down on the bed, and not ten minutes later I was itching, uncontrollably itching, I broke out all over my arms and neck. I spoke to the front desk the next morning, and the girl I spoke to was very rude, she said she couldnt move us because the king size bed which was available was reserved, even though I was told that it was on a first come basis. I finally spoke to the manager who seemed nice, and after about ten minutes in discussion she said that by one p.m. that day she would move to tenth floor where there was a king size bed.
After that, my attitude improved, but we stayed away as much as much as possible. We basically only slept there.
*THIS IS A BEAUTIFUL PLACE TO STAY AT. THE PEOPLE WAS GREAT. THE MALL WAS SO PRETTY THEY HAD ALL SORTS OF THINGS. STUFF THAT U CANNOT NOT RESIST. I AM LOOKING FORWARD TO GO THIS YEAR.

The rear of the hotel included a nice pool area, lounge chairs, hammocks, and a ping-pong table. The best part though was the great tiki bar and lunchtime dining area.

It was great to chill next the pool and enjoy a drink from the pool bar. The pool guy was a character. Bringing some beer down and hanging out by the pool, what more can you want?
Good location and buffet breakfast

Good
I stayed at the hotel in May 2006. I asked for smoking rooms, which has pool view. Only two elevators that makes waiting lines at the entries. Breakfast is absolutely great, many option to choose from. It definitely worth the price.
This hotel was meant to be our honeymoon hotel we stayed two hours very grotty area , lobby may be impressive but the minute you get out of the lifts the smell hits you mold ,mildew. the rooms are appalling decoration disgraceful ,we had three...
