35 year old man with a moderate budget, traveling for business

During a recent stay at Rio in Las Vegas, I began to wonder about the cleanliness of the rooms. After watching a Fox News hidden camera report about hotel house keeping staff in numerous national hotels violating health code standards by hand washing guest room drinking glasses in the bathroom sinks with dirty towels, I thought I would put Rio to the test. After marking two used drinking glasses in my room with ink, I left them on the counter to be replaced by the house keeping staff. Later, after the room had purportedly been cleaned, the same glasses were placed back on the shelf, with the ink marks still clearly visible. It was apparent to me they had not been sanitized according to the hotel's stated sanitizing procedures. Could this mean that when a guest checks out, this same method of glass cleaning occurs while preparing the room for the next guest?

When I brought it to the attention of one of the managers, he was embarrassed and made assurances it would not happen again. He then appeared to attempt to rationalize the unsanitary conditions by stating that I would likely find the same glass washing practices at other hotels on the Las Vegas strip. He said he could not possibly monitor the cleaning methods of "all 500" of his house keeping staff. He further stated that there were some problems with the house keeping training program that probably needed to be reviewed.

I filed a complaint with the local health department which, within days, conducted in an inspection at Rio. According to the inspector who conducted the inspection, not removing dirty drinking glasses from a room and replacing them with properly sanitized glasses is in fact a health code violation. She went on to say that she has definitely has "concerns with the glass handling process" at Rio and that those concerns "will be addressed" by the health department. Other cleanliness issues in my room included a "clean" hand towel placed in my room that had a large black apparent grease stain on it; a clogged shower drain and hair (not my own) found in the purportedly newly laundered bed sheets. Based upon my experience and the concerns of the health department inspector, guests should be very cautious of sanitary issues at Rio.

I am not likely to return to the Rio All Suite Hotel and Casino.
I would not recommend it to friends.

MichaelSmith icon Great rooftop bar over looking Vegas

Me and my friend only had one day to see Vegas. The Rio is just off the main Vegas strip which pulls the price down slightly, which makes it brilliant for backpackers who are on a limited budget. It has its own casino and great entertainment. It also has rooftop bar called the VooDoo Lounge, it has an amazing view of the vegas strip from its rooftop terrace.

When you've had your fill of the amazing views and the nightlife at The Rio you and easily get a cab in to the main part of the strip from outside the hotel.

Definitely stay there again if going back to Las Vegas.

I am very likely to return to the Rio All Suite Hotel and Casino.
I would definitely recommend it to friends.

Maxxy icon Rio Is Wonderful!!

Ultra modern, classy, comfortable, elegant and entertaining! The suite was magnificent! I enjoyed staying in it! The casino was fun with a fabulous show! You know, you really do not need to leave this hotel casino! It is totally self-contained. However, if you need to go to the Strip, there is a large bus shuttle station to many hotels on Las Vegas Boulevard! Rio is an example showing that you can go to Las Vegas and NOT stay on the Strip to have a Vegas-fabulous time!

I am very likely to return to the Rio All Suite Hotel and Casino.
I would definitely recommend it to friends.

We just loved the Rio, Everyone was soooo nice. Asked for a strip view and we were given one. Room was huge and gorgeous and always clean. (Of course the spectacular view.) Starbucks right down stairs was great! We rented a small car because there was so much to see outside the city, (the mountains were beautiful!), so we usually drove to strip as parking everywhere is free but we also took the shuttle one day to Harrahs which was easy too. Only down side was the Voodoo Lounge which was expensive to get in and the seating was pretty much all roped off. but even then we told them that this was the only thing we were unhappy about they reduced one of our other charges. All in all a great place. We would definitely go back there.

I love the staff at the hotel, I just think the rooms are in desperate need of an upgrade in the Masquerade Tower. The rooms are not as nice as they used to be. The bartender and the staff are always courteous.

This hotel made me feel welcome: The casino host left a pleasant message in our room as soon as we arrived.

I am very likely to return to the Rio All Suite Hotel and Casino.
