LetTheWindBlow icon Closest Hotel to Convention Center

The Marriott at 500 E. Broad Street, Richmond is the best place to stay if you're going to the Richmond Convention Center. When looking online, it was difficult to tell that this Marriott is right across the street. The other hotels advertise that they are within walking distance to the Convention Center but getting there is about a 15 minute walk up hill and it's not a safe neighborhood. If you stay anywhere else, you'll need to take a cab, for sure. This Marriott is clean, has a very new lobby and good food. We stayed at Crowne Plaza two nights and then at the Marriott one night. The Crowne Plaza is dated and just too far from the Convention Center.

Check in was pathetic, with my confirmation paper in hand, they over charged me 200 over the booking rate, furthermore it was 6pm and they still did not have a clean room.

3am there were 2 rooms having a party, i called the front desk, was hung up twice, went down there in my pajamas, and complained the desk attendant went in the back, i heard them in the other room say if he does not like he here, he can leave, the desk attendant came out and said i reported it to the night manager. They did not even want to talk to me.

The only good thing, well 2 good things, the restaraunt and leaving the hotel.

I will never go there again and i will spread the word.

My friend attended a conference at the convention center earlier this year and lets just say my critique compaired to hers is rated a 10 !

My room was not ready until four o'clock and it was never cleaned until about that time. The restaurant service was awful. We sat for over an hour and then got appetizers and dinner all together.

I am somewhat likely to return to the Richmond Marriott.
I might recommend it to friends.

Check-in was horrible. They put us in the wrong room. When we asked to change rooms all we got was attitude and they never brought the new key to us. I called the front desk an hour later and they claimed it was a misunderstanding.

Two elevators were broken. Over 700 high school teens stayed in the hotel. They were rude & immature and I don't think they should have stay at what should be a nice hotel. I didn't pay $140 a night to deal with that.

The restaurant on site had bad service. It took over 15 minutes for the waitress to talk to us and she knew nothing about the menu and food. There were only 4-5 other couples in the restaurant at this time.

The pool was over-run with teens so I couldn't swim or go in the hot-tub. This was one of the reasons I booked the hotel too. It too over 20 minutes each time we used an elevator because the teens would press all the buttons or ride up and down them. We were on the 15th floor and it's kind of hard to walk that many steps.

The breakfast was horrible with over-cooked bacon and under-cooked hash browns. They never offered a discount or free meal. They did offer a free desert or drink but we never received them. The bar way over priced, two drinks were $18.00.

They charged $12 for parking per day. That should be added to the hotel bill when making reservations. The staff was not friendly and they didn't seem to know much!

The bed sheets were never changed even when asked for them to be changed. They only made bed. Wow, I can do that!

Our advice, couples looking for a romantic weekend, do not stay at this hotel. We were very disappointed. The only good thing about the weekend was the concert we went to & I got engaged! Lucky for them those events happened because otherwise I probably would have made a bigger deal about the stay.

It was way overpriced for very few amenities and internet access had an astounding fee. For the price they could afford to give free internet access. I will never stay at a Marriott hotel again!

I am not likely to return to the Richmond Marriott.
I would not recommend it to friends.
