Awful
BayArea icon Beware!
Posted Aug 28, 07 by BayArea, 1 reviews
27 year old with a moderate budget, traveling for leisure

The reason why I booked this hotel is because of all the wonderful reviews I read on-line. Here was my recent experience at Residence Inn Maingate, Anaheim:

Pro: The breakfast buffet was good. I woke up at 7:30am to get ready and headed there. Plenty of seats but people were already filling the place around 8:30am. The rooms were clean. Full kitchen, sofa, bed was comfortable, clean sheets and pillows. It was a 15 minute walk to Disneyland, but I would not suggest it because after a 13 hour walk all day at Disneyland you really don't want to walk back to the Residence Inn (long long blocks) at midnight! They had a lot of complimentary services for their guests. The good news ends here.

Con: The hotel front desk staff. They are rude, unfriendly, and uninformed. This is a huge problem if you want your vacation stay to be free of problems for the price you pay. The first problem is the California Occupancy Tax which only applies to hotel guests in Anaheim, CA. When I saw a review about this, I called into the hotel and asked what it was. The girl answering the phones at the front desk said it was .06 cents a day for tourists. What it really was (which I found out when I got my estimated bill on the door knob) a 15% tax on top of your bill. Example: studio room $159, CA Occ Tax $23.85, and Tourist fee .06 cents a day. This would not have be a problem if I had been informed when I called in previously to ask. How would a tourist know, if the people working there did not even know! My estimate was $167.01 when I called in, what ended up to be was $182.91. The second problem with the staff was when I requested for late check out when I checked in. The guy at the front desk said he'll help me put in the request and I wouldn't have to call in the next morning to request for late check out. It ended up, he did not do it. When I spoke with the rudest manager ever, she said that it was not his fault. Maybe it was busy, maybe he forgot...and when I told her I was the only one in the lobby, it was still my fault. She continues on to say their studio rooms were fully booked and I did not have a request for late check out. She went on to say how amazing her staff was and nothing was their fault (so it was pretty much my fault for being a guest there). After 5 minutes of arguing, and when I said it wasn't my fault for him not putting the request in the computer for me, she finally honored my request and hung up on me.

***This was my boyfriend's birthday weekend and instead of just having the most carefree weekend for both of us, I had to deal with people who were incompetent, and points the finger back at the guest and say oh, its your own fault for being a tourist and not knowing the laws/policies that only applies to tourists visting Anaheim.

Bottom Line: Although I loved the room, I refuse to stay at the Residence Inn Maingate in Anaheim ever again.
