30 year old male with a luxury budget, traveling for business
If living space is more important than fancy soaps or a view of the Charles, then the Residence Inn is for you. For a bit less money than the Marriott next door, you can get a room with a kitchen and living area.
Hotel info: The suites with a kitchen and living area were a better fit for me as a business traveler. I had more room to spread out, and I didn’t feel so cramped. If you have a family you have a separate room, the couches pull out, and the crib can be in another room (a problem when traveling with little ones)
Breakfast is included, which is very convenient. Not top notch, but a nice sampling of fruits, cereals, and you can make your own waffles. Another bonus is you have family with you. There is no room service, but many restaurants in the area deliver. “Happy hour” had a different food for the kids every weeknight I was there.
Location: Although the area is mostly for business, there are several good restaurants in Kendall Center, like Cambridge Brew Company. East Coast Grill is a short drive away and the Cambridge side Galleria is within walking distance with a Cheese Cake Factory). The hotel is located a block away from the Kendall Square T stop on the Red-line (which gives you easy access to Cambridge and Boston).
Downsides: It’s not as fine of hotel as the Cambridge Marriott or Hyatt Regency (both within a 5 minute walk). Overall, it’s not the hotel for a romantic weekend. You won’t get as many Marriott points since it is lesser class hotel. You’ll have to pay for parking, but metered parking is right outside.
Great choice in Cambridge for extended business or family travel, not for romance.
