Had we read the comments of previous hotel guests on this website, we would probably never have booked the Renoir. But we needed a centrally located hotel in downtown, near the Court House at the Civic Center, and the Renoir was just3 blocks away, easily reached by BART from SFO airport, connected with most places we wanted to access either via the Muni subway or the streetcars (called F-line) on Market Street. We booked on the hotel's own website and got a real deal (not even Expedia or Priceline had a better rate available). We got there late on a Friday evening, and I can understand what some single women might find a bit intimidating: the many homeless that live all over the downtown area of San Francisco seem to stand out in the this relatively poor, not so glitzy section of Market Street. But once we were insied the hotel, the staff was polite and professional, the lobby clean and inviting, and our room had was comfortable, nothing fancy but for $90 we knew we had found a bargain over a sunny holiday weekend. Most guests seemed to be from Europe or Japan, we met a couple of "Kiwis" from New Zealand on the same floor and they told us this had been thier favorite hotel so far on their 3-week tour along the pacific coast. Anyway, we liked this place and although parking appears to be quite expensive for people like us used to park (almost) wherever we like at home in Anaheim, we found out that many Union Square hotels charge $40 and more. How lucky we were, we didn't need a car, the court house was just 5 minutes walking distance away.
