39 year old man with a moderate budget, traveling for leisure

Had we read the comments of previous hotel guests on this website, we would probably never have booked the Renoir. But we needed a centrally located hotel in downtown, near the Court House at the Civic Center, and the Renoir was just3 blocks away, easily reached by BART from SFO airport, connected with most places we wanted to access either via the Muni subway or the streetcars (called F-line) on Market Street. We booked on the hotel's own website and got a real deal (not even Expedia or Priceline had a better rate available). We got there late on a Friday evening, and I can understand what some single women might find a bit intimidating: the many homeless that live all over the downtown area of San Francisco seem to stand out in the this relatively poor, not so glitzy section of Market Street. But once we were insied the hotel, the staff was polite and professional, the lobby clean and inviting, and our room had was comfortable, nothing fancy but for $90 we knew we had found a bargain over a sunny holiday weekend. Most guests seemed to be from Europe or Japan, we met a couple of "Kiwis" from New Zealand on the same floor and they told us this had been thier favorite hotel so far on their 3-week tour along the pacific coast. Anyway, we liked this place and although parking appears to be quite expensive for people like us used to park (almost) wherever we like at home in Anaheim, we found out that many Union Square hotels charge $40 and more. How lucky we were, we didn't need a car, the court house was just 5 minutes walking distance away.

25 year old woman with a economy budget, traveling for leisure

this was the worst experience i have ever had when booking a hotel! they double booked me and then told the front desk to sell all other rooms before trying to get rid of the room that THEY had double booked. the front desk was very non compassionate. we were charged for the second room and then not even given the key!

NEVER STAY HERE!!!

Seedy neighborhood.

Carpets needed vacuuming.

What no complimentary coffee in the room or lobby!

I paid 1.00 to a vending machine downstairs and then had to carry two very hot cups of water upstairs. If you'd like a cup of vending machine coffee that would cost you 1.50 per cup.

I had to pay 27.00 to valet my car. They informed me that when I needed the car just to give them 20minutes to bring it. Well it took them an hour.

I booked over the phone with a rate that included breakfast. In the morning I asked if I needed to give the restaurant my room # for the breakfast and was told I should have been given a breakfast ticket upon check by the woman that checked me in. I had to fight for my breakfast- no fun. I would not return.

People have to realize that this location is truly terrible. As a San Francisco resident I am always horrified that hoteliers will say areas like Civic Center, upper Market Street are great locations. Even if they renovate the hotel today you are in an area that is bad at night and so-so at midday. It's also worth avoiding the Ramada on Market street for the same reason.

Located right on the outskirts of San Francisco's 'Tenderloin Area', named for the choice cuts of 'meat' you could find there - now full of drug addicts/homeless/drug dealer types. Extremely poor service was received from the manager when asked about the large crumbs and other items on the mattresses of both beds. Once you get past the lobby (which is presentable enough) you will be accosted with the moldy, damp smell of an old, unkempt building. We found out from our travel agent that the Renoir Hotel is trying to claim a full stay - when we left the very first day, before spending a single night there.

I am not likely to return to the Renoir Hotel.
I would not recommend it to friends.
