I was put at the Renaissance Providence Hotel by our corporate travel company, because all other recommended hotels were booked. My arrival at the Providence Airport was scheduled for around midnight, but due to weather in Chicago I did not arrive until about 0230. I did not want to fool with a rental car in a strange place that time of night, so I took a taxi. This is recommended, since the mandatory Valet fee is expensive; you don't need a car downtown. When I got to the hotel, everybody was so very courteous and made me feel welcome. They knew I was going to arrive late, so in my little refrigerator they placed a bottle of wine, and a plate with cheeses and crackers. If not for that, I would not have had anything to eat; how courteous ! ! I found out late you can have food from room service 24 hours a day ! ! My stay was scheduled for Sunday through Saturday, and something happened every day that made the stay far better than others in my party staying at 6 other hotels throughout the downtown area. There is a club lounge on the 7th floor, with 24 hour coffee, and cold drinks. They also serve a hot breakfast, with snacks, drinks, and desert in the evenings; no extra charge ! I am not sure if I was granted access because I was a Marriott Rewards customer, or what the criteria was. It is a huge room, with a couple flat-screen TVs and comfortable sofas to lounge around on. You have 24 hour access to the room, with a computer with internet access and a printer. Oh year, there are also always M&Ms in large glass bowls sorted by color. But what took the cake, was what I had waiting for me Friday after I finished my work. I received a hand-written welcome note from the manager when I arrived, and here was another. Along with the warm note, was a tray with a bucket or ice, a bucket of popcorn, 4 bottles of coke, a bowl of peanut M&Ms, and a ticket for a free pay-per-vue movie ! ! Not sure what I did to deserve the special treatment, but I'm sure if you stay there you will feel special too. I have been traveling on business for over 30 years now, and bar none, this was my best experience EVER ! ! Don't hesitate; stay at the Renaissance Providence Hotel.
