Red Roof Inn Chicago Hotel

The location was very close to several things. This is good in the day when trying to catch a bus, taxi, etc. It's also good because it's close to Navy Pier and some of the other touristy areas. I dropped the location rating a point because it was not so good at night, given its close proximity to Northwestern Hospital. I was frequently awakened by sirens throughout the night. Our room was on the 2nd floor, so we could lug our bags up the stairs, which was just as well because there are only two elevators and only one of them was out of order. There was no view from the room, but at this price, can't really be surprised. Also, no frills at this price; don't expect more than coffee in the lobby. Not bad for the money, though, but certainly not great.

Location is terrific. Room was small but clean and functional. Bathroom was clean and newly renovated. Lobby was small. No morning coffee to offer. But if you want affordable and good location, this is hotel is a great fit. Front desk staff was very friendly.

About the only pro was that they allowed my party to check in early.

Cons:

The price I was given for my room was not the price I was charged. I was actually charged $80.00 more a night. (Problem was fixed after four straight days of trying to talk to a manager. They kept blowing me off, that did not make me happy.)

The first room I was given had problems with the water draining out of the bath tub.

The second room was smaller than my first room (which I could hardly imagine anything smaller than room 1, but they did it).

When we closed the curtain gnats came out.

The bathroom had a horrible odor.

Only one elevator worked and it was slow. They had to call the fire department because something happened to it.

The beds were the most uncomfortable things I have ever slept on. You might as well have been sleeping on the floor.

The towels and wash cloths were terrible. They were extremely rough and thin.

Overall, this was a horrible hotel. I understand that the price was low for the location. However, this is no excuse for any of the above.

The room and the bathroom were clean, quiet and peaceful. The staff was professional and helpful.

One of the two elevators was broken and it remained that way the entire weekend there. It seemed the entire hotel was occupied so getting to and from my room took a long time. We were on the fifteenth floor so we did not always want to take the stairs up. It was an inconvenience.
