Red Lion Hotel Bakersfield

We were on the road and stumbled on this hotel when others in the area wouldn't take pets. It was a very nice place, on par with or better than a Residence Inn at about the same price. The room was very clean and the building was very secure. The pool area looked very nice although we didn't use it, it was in a secure courtyard with plants all around. I would definitely recommend this hotel.

The service and people there were very good and the hotel was very clean and appealing.

This hotel made me feel entertained: There was always sports on the TV in the restaurant.

The power went out at the hotel because of a local power outage. The pool was closed during middle of the day on an extremely hot day. I could not cool off in pool or room. I got only ten percent as discount at checkout for compensation. The hotel should have backup power solution. The pool should be chemically treated at night while closed and not in the middle of the day. The staff should be better informed during crises, so they can offer guests reasonable answers to avoid confrontation. Many guests were upset more because of the lack of information available to them regarding the outage, than the outage itself. The staff was subject to the wrath of angry guests, in addition to having to work with no power, air conditioning, etc.

It was a very positive experience at the Red Lion Hotel. I even got directions (without asking) on how to get back to LA without having to deal with the 4-plus-hour delay that was on the grapevine.
