The exterior of the New Yorker is old, but fun. The lobby was nice and clean and the elevators were nice, too. But once we stepped off the elevator and onto the 23rd floor, everything was in disarray and in desperate need of a makeover.
Our room was worse. There were holes in the walls, busted base boards, and a clear reflection in the mirrors was hard to come by. The concierge was not helpful or accommodating. The housekeeping staff was fantastic and prompt. Some remodeling was going on and it was very loud. The pull-out couch was not worth sleeping on. The walls are not a great sound barrier since sirens and rain hitting the window air-conditioning unit would keep us up all night.
The complimentary continental breakfast was excellent, if you could find a seat. They had 50 floors of people trying to have breakfast at the same time in a room that held 10 small (4 person) tables.
The location of the New Yorker is great. It’s within walking distance to Times Square and the Empire State Building.
