Horrible stay - Aug 13, 07
Booked in advance and called ahead to confirm. All seemed well, until we got there.
I am allergic to smoke and my wife is 7 months pregnant so we needed a NON-smoking room. It was clearly stated in our reservation even the printout of the paperwork at the hotel showed that we wanted a non smoking room. Yet when we get there we are put into a smoking room. When I go downstairs to complain, the gentlemen manning the night desk though very polite said he had no non-smoking rooms available. He said the only thing he could offer us was a non smoking suite at a HIGHER rate! He then told us for our whole 4 day stay we would have to move our rooms several times, because the suites were not available every night.
The hotel blamed it on the website who I booked it through and said that though we booked through them, our booking a non-smoking room was merely a request, though it clearly said non smoking on our reservation at the website. We called the website and they were very pleasant and helpful, even calling the front desk on our behalf, but they would not budge on charging us the higher rate.
I was told this happen a lot by the manager of the hotel. My question was simple if it does, why does the hotel accept reservations from this website, if this is an ongoing concern. She never really gave me a direct answer, but it's obvious they want all the reservations that come with letting there rooms being offered on such a well known site, but do not want to live up to the rates stated, for the type of room. It's a version of "bait and switch" and the manager in her own words "defends it and her hotel" for doing it.
You would think after such a snafu that the staff would go out of their way to treat my family and I well during our stay. Well think again. As I said we had to move from room to room every night. Having our child along and the fact my wife is late in pregnancy made this an ordeal. The final straw came when I called down and ask for 1 hour extra before moving again to another room in the hotel. The lady at the desk, a surey type, told us rudely no, saying they had to clean our rooms and we needed to move. Now understand it's their fualt to begin with that we have to play musical rooms most nights while we are there and they could even cut us a break for 1 hour. To add insult we were down in the hall of that room almost an hour later and they still hadn't cleaned the room yet they couldn't give us that time to stay.
BTW when I asked this same clerk for the name of the owners of the property she refused to give it to me. Thats when I talked to the manager and she gave me the name of the company that owns this particular franchise but nothing more.
When I brought all these peoblems to the manager attention she blamed the website and the only thing she would do for me after much discussion was to charge me the lowest suite rate for my stay which was still higher than my agreed rate when I booked.
We then moved to the Hampton Inn a short distance from there and had a great stay there. Should have booked at the Hampton to begin with as we have stayed there before and found it to be nice. We tried to save a little money and with the "bait and switch" at the Ramada Limited in Strasburg Ohio, that didn't happen. Just had a bunch of headaches.
Avoid Ramada Strasburg Ohio at all cost!!!!
