Due to the Gator Bowl and the fact that I looked for hotels right before we got into Jacksonville, most of the good hotels were booked. So we found the Ramada Inn South Point. It looked decent from the pictures and at a cost of $110 + tax for the night, I figured it would be at least decent.
Boy was I wrong! This place is complete trash. From brown stained (water stains?) ceilings, to trash in the room (the remote fell behind the dresser, into a pile of trash), to bugs crawling around, it was a mess. I could not wait to get out of that room. It was so nasty that instead of sleeping under the stained bed covers, we slept fully clothed on top of all of the bed covers and just blasted the heat.
Also, the toilet didn't flush. We called up for that and 30 minutes later, some guy who looked like he was homeless walked in and plunged it. And we didn't take a shower in the morning because neither one of us were willing to set foot in that nasty tub.
As we checked out, I noted some of these things to the lady at the counter, who turned her back to us as we were talking and handed us our receipt and said "Thanks" without ever addressing or acknowledging any of the problems.
Oh, and finally, they apparently have a "club/hang out spot" for shady teens somewhere in the building. It was on a Monday night and a security guard had to chase folks out of the parking lot, repeatedly.
I've never stayed in a Super 8 or a Motel 6 or anything like that, but if it ever comes to choosing one of those versus the Ramada Inn South Point, I'll be choosing one of the others. I can't believe that Ramada would put their name and reputation on this dump!
