Absolutely disgusting. Upon leaving my cockroach invested room, the management apologized and said they would credit our stay. They never adjusted our bill. So not only is the hotel totally filthy, but the management dishonest!
Should be shut down by the health department. Don't stay there unless you like cockroaches, lice and other such creatures.

We just chanced upon The Portofino Beach Inn as we were looking up online and just as we called the hotel to book our room, we knew how friendly and professional the management was. Upon check in, we were courteously welcomed and throughout our stay, we did not face any issues and we were given excellent recommendations for dinner as well. They also sold Legoland tickets! Kids loved it and so did we.

I would rate this hotel as "Excellent" because of the value offered for the money I paid.
San Diego hotels are pretty expensive, especially if you're on the coast but this hotel had a refrigerator and microwave in the basic rooms, so we were glad.
The beach is a short walk and so are the restaurants and shops in Encinitas. We enjoyed our stay and the staff was friendly too. Rooms were suited to the price and we had no complaints.

We had evacuation orders during the recent Fires in San Diego and this was one of the few places where discounted rates for evacuees were offered. The staff was very helpful and concerned about our home and area. They kept us updated throughout the 2 tense days of the situation. The rooms were fairly priced for their convenient amenities and cozy beds. The staff was so helpful that they bought fruits and milk for the guests since their regular deliveries didn't make it the previous night due to the fires.
Would recommend to anyone looking for a budget stay in San Diego.

Excellent
Portofino beach Inn is true value for money. For the price, a spa room is a great bargain and its location on Highway 101 and Moonlight beach made it an easy pick from the lot. The facilities are basic and convenient and the rooms are cozy for a...

Okay
Hotel website states 2 blocks from beach. It's actually 5 blocks and includes a steep hill. Housekeeping needs improved. Don't get room with adjoining room - door between the 2 rooms is paper thin.

Horrible
Booked the week after Memorial Day 2006 expecting "newly remodeled" "brand new accommodations" as described online. Instead got a 1980's cigarette-burned comforter, jacuzzi tub in the tiny living area, view of garbage through a bent-up screen and...
