37 year old woman with a moderate budget, traveling for leisure

April 2006-First time abroad with the kids & first visit to Florida!

We wanted to stay in Florida on a medium budget. The room we were in was basic. The AC was noisy and so was the traffic!

The restaurant served some nice meals but the breakfast got a bit boring after the 5th day.

The staff were friendly, though being woken up at 3am by staff who were trying to deliver a roll away bed we hadn't ordered wasn't a nice experience.

The scheduled transport to Disney cost us a fortune! and was limited!

We are hoping to return to Florida next year but hence wont be staying in this hotel as its not within a comfortable walking distance of much.

We arrived at the hotel on 20/10/07 after an 8 hour flight, 2 adults, 3 children to be met by the most unhelpful staff in the world. We had to wait over 30 minutes to be given our room card. When we opened the door to our room we were gobsmacked, the room was small and did not have the roll away bed we had booked and paid for in England. The room, well where can I start, the fridge had been kicked in, the microwave was covered in food, there was names scrawled all over the draws, there was a dirty sock down the back of the chair, the aircon unit was covered in mold, the bath was brown/black, the fire alarm had chewing gum stock over the sensor, there was something that looked like ear wax stuck to the shampoo bottle and the room smelt fusty. I went back to reception, who were completely blank looking, and offered us a room on the 8th floor of which I turned down as my youngest daughter is only 4 and obviously I was concerned about the balcony area. That night I checked out of the hotel and booked in at the Holiday Inn International Drive of which I have stopped there on numerous occasions and cannot fault in any possible way. Please do not punish yourself by going to this hotel. As I said to my husband I can do basic, but not dirty.

The only words I can use to explain my experience at this hotel are "Just plain gross!"

My family and I arrived in Orlando after 10 pm for our vacation. By the time we arrived at the hotel, it was well past 11pm, and we were absolutely exhausted after a long day of travel. We were not looking for fancy, just clean enough to lay our heads down.

When we first walked in to our 4th floor room, we immediately noticed the chair, which was so soiled, it should have been burned. It looked like someone had smeared pudding and crackers all over it...I shudder to think what it really was?? To make matters worse there was an insect feeding on whatever was in the chair- yuck! I immediately told my children (4&6 years old) that they were not to sit in the chair, and that we would be leaving first thing in the morning.

My husband then went into the bathroom upon which he found a very large water bug that he had to kill before our child could use the potty- still I was trying to convince myself that we would just be there for a few hours. Meanwhile I pulled back the covers on each bed and uncovered two ratty blankets.... "we'll just use the sheets tonight."

While in the bathroom my husband noted that the tub floor was so brown, that he would not allow our kids to bathe there in the morning.

My sleepy head 6 year old got her PJ's on, and i began to change my 4 year old who was too tired to move. I laid him on the sheets of one bed to finish putting on his Jammies and looked up just in time to find a small bug (bed bug? Crab?) making a beeline for his curly hair! I shrieked, yanked him up and said "That's it! We'll sleep in the car before we sleep here!" We immediately left the hotel... PJ's and all. There was no way we were going to spend another second there.

We were in the room only about 10 minutes... three bugs. 10 minutes. Let alone the ratty bedding, dingy tub, and soiled chair. Had my brain not been so terribly exhausted, I would have left at sight of the chair.

Needless to say we got a refund. The receptionist, though kind, did not seem the least bit surprised about our allegations about the room, and did not even offer us another room. (Not that I would have taken it, but the fact that she didn't offer makes me suspect that most of the the rooms are probably similar to that one). Never again!

If you want to save money on a hotel room than this is the hotel to go. They were reasonably priced but the beds were small and uncomfortable. The rooms are not upgraded. They also have no suites if you want to upgrade.

The hotel is also on a main highway which is not good if you looking to try to get some rest. Ask for the parking lot side for your room location.

38 year old man with a moderate budget, traveling for leisure

I recently stayed at this hotel April 07. I found all staff pleasant and helpful. The Zebras bar was nice, and the bar man was very helpful pointing us in right direction for nice restaurants. The 24 hour deli was very welcomed, and having a refrigerator in the room was useful to keep milk and pop chilled. The restaurant was not up to much, but we only visited this once.

The only disappointing thing for our two boys was the swimming pool closing at 10pm. It's in an excellent location on International Drive, just across from Pointe Orlando shopping mall. I would definitely visit this hotel again.
