35 year old female with a economy budget, traveling for leisure

The room was not worth what I paid for it, but it was okay and the staff was very nice. There was one incident when I asked for more towels.....and then had to go get them myself. It was supposed to be an updated room, but didnt appear that way to me. I guess all in all it was okay, just a little pricey for what it was, but we had a great time and no one complained. the pool was great and the hotel was actually ON THE BEACH....I love oceanfront rooms. It was quiet.

I am somewhat likely to return to the Quality Inn Kill Devil Hills.
I might recommend it to friends.

WARNING - PLEASE READ BELOW BEFORE BOOKING

I would seriously disregard any positive reviews of this place - please read this below before considering staying here:

We were going to OBX for one night so we could do some cake testings for our wedding and decided to stay here because it was the cheapest - big mistake.

Our first room (#130) smelled like cigarettes and just felt really run down. We were given a choice of either room #125 or #124 - #124 smelled like some had a febreeze festival in it so we picked 125.

OVERALL ROOM CONDITION: Out of 3 rooms - all 3 had very uncomfortable beds with small pillows and scratchy sheets. The walls have small holes in them, cobwebs in the corners, and the bathrooms were pretty disgusting in each one.

OUR PROBLEMS:

1) After sitting down to check email (which had a terrible wireless connection) - I started to itch - like there were some sort of bedbugs or fleas (they allow dogs to stay here) in the bed. My fiance was in the other bed and she didnt feel it (she never sat on mine).

2) You can hear EVERYTHING going on in the attached rooms and everywhere else. I heard people talking, people having sex, and telephones ringing. When you walk down the hallways (even at 10PM at night) it sounds like a Dorm Room - you could literally sit in the hallway and listen to everything people were doing in each room. - i heard babies crying, dogs barking, and people yelling and screaming too.

3) Some of the doors won't shut all the way specifically the main entrance to room #130 and #124 - you have to lock them from the inside to get them to stay shut. We were told it was for our safety (haha).

4) The management is rude - but the workers from Russia / Sweden are very nice. One new man named Richard was very rude to use and was absolutely no help.

- We decided to leave at around 10PM and drive back home because we couldn't stand it. After the management tried to give us Ocean View rooms so they could keep our money I finally got them to give me a refund.

As we were leaving we realized we left something in our original room. Someone else was already booked there and they told us to go and knock and ask if we could look for it. After we didnt find it there they said one of the maids probably stole it and they wanted to file a police report. We were exhausted and had a 3.5 hour drive ahead of us and it was now approaching 11 PM - we didn't want to file a police report, we wanted to sleep in our own warm bed. The man who I spoke of earlier actually tried to stall us so the sherriff would show up and file the police report by asking us a ton of questions.

In conclusion - we ended up leaving - they found our stuff the next day, no one had stolen anything.

We were never apologized to, we were never offered anything at all to make up for what had happened, and we were treated terrible throughout the situation, but ONLY by the supervisors, never by the younger people that had accents (i believe a lot of people from Europe come to work at OBX in the summer). The younger people were very helpful and should be paid more than the supervisors (who didn't even know where the rooms were - he even asked us where our room was so he could go check it).

While waiting in the lobby too for this nightmare to end - we heard other guest have issues and it seemed like the phone constantly rang with people complaining.

I know most people won't read this whole review - I just wanted to write a 100% truthful account about how this business ruined a weekend for me. I am not exaggerating at all about anything and this review is completely truthful.

Please spend the extra $40 to get a nicer hotel - it will truly be worth it.

If you go to the Outer Banks, don't stay here. We often go to the Outer Banks in the off season or shoulder season (never during the summer), because there are a lot less people and the prices are better. The downside is the weather is cold and most of the restaurants and shops are closed. Restaurants that are open may have a limited menu.

We had a "ocean view" room reserved. It wasn't until we got to the room that we found out they have "ocean front" and "ocean view" rooms. Ocean front faces the beach. Ocean view is on the sides where you can see the ocean, but you aren't on the ocean. There were only 3 rooms occupied in the whole hotel (there were only 2 other cars in the entire parking lot), so you would think they could have been nice and put us in a ocean front room, but they didn't. After staying here, I can see why it was empty.

The good: The price was low.

The bad: Even though we had a no smoking room, it reeked of cigarettes. There were cigarette burns in the indoor/outdoor carpet on the balcony. Housekeeping left a very dirty cleaning rag on the shower curtain rod as a present for us. The bed was very firm and gave us backaches. The refrigerator made a loud humming noise when the compressor was running. The toilet ran slightly the entire time. The furniture is uncomfortable. The room and bathroom weren't all that clean. There were no premium television channels. No free breakfast is offered.

Overall a very bad experience. Don't stay here!

I am not likely to return to the Quality Inn Kill Devil Hills.
I would not recommend it to friends.

We had a great weekend stay at the John Yancey this fall with our kids. The place was very clean, the bedding brand new, and the weather great! We enjoyed the ease of walking to the beach, and spent the whole day relaxing and soaking up the sun.

The hotel was very quiet. Our room was just right for our needs. It is located right about in the middle of the Outer Banks, making it convenient for shopping and sightseeing.

I am very likely to return to the Quality Inn Kill Devil Hills.
I would definitely recommend it to friends.
