Overcharged – Posted Mar 01, 2008

Horrible
53 year old female with a moderate budget, traveling for leisure

I reserved a room in February 2007 for race week February 2008 and then called in March 2007 to reserve 1 more room. I received confirmation for 2 nights for 224.98 for each room. When I got to the room on 2/14/08 I was double charged for one room and triple charged for the other. It is 3-1-08 and I am still trying to get 400.00 plus dollars credited back to my credit card. I have made several calls to the manager and they keep coming up with different stories. Now they are saying I booked 3 rooms which I did not. They at first tried to tell me the rates went up in December so I had to pay double even though I had a confirmation prior to that date. Doc's english is very poor. The rooms actually looked better than the prior year, but as we were leaving we saw a roach. I would never stay there again. I'd sleep in my vehicle first. The double charges for others looks like this is a trend or scam.

Good
35 year old female with a moderate budget, traveling for leisure

We were a little reluctant after reading the past reviews, but it was all we could find available for last minute race tickets. We were reassured over the phone that the rooms were newly renovated and we were not disappointed. The rooms were clean and the bathrooms were nicely updated with tile and new fixtures. The hotel is across the street from a busy plaza...we went to a concert one night and the next night was a antique car show. The owner "Doc" was very nice and accommodating to us and our group. We had an accidental double charge on our credit card for the room deposit and it was resolved with no problem. We will stay there again next year!

Horrible
31 year old female with a luxury budget, traveling for leisure

In March 2007 we purchased tickets to the Pepsi 400 at Daytona Speedway. We also made reservations at America’s Best Value Inn at 1614 N US Hwy 1, Ormond Beach, FL 32174. This was the hotel closest to the racetrack with availability at the time.

We checked in on July 7th as scheduled, and paid by credit card in the amount of $146.19.

Upon check in we entered our room (#152), and it was obvious that this room was not worth the amount we were charged, but we had no choice but to stay because we were sure all other hotels were booked by then. Upon further inspection I found several things that I feel certain must be in violation of state hotel regulations. After returning home and researching this hotel on the internet, I found that their hotel license had expired on 4/1/07, and their status was listed as closed. Following are the conditions that we found during our stay at the above hotel.

Expected amenities for that price range that were not available

• No remote control – called front desk and maintenance brought one to us

• No alarm clock – called front desk and never received one

• No blow dryer

• No iron

• No ashtrays (we had a smoking room)

• No high speed wired or wireless internet

• All ice machines in entire hotel were out of order, were told to get ice from Days Inn next door

• Extremely limited number of TV channels

Conditions unsuitable for human occupation

• Water was discolored (yellow) and had a foul odor. (picture)

• Sink and bath backed up and drained extremely slowly. (picture)

• Countertop behind sink was rotted and covered with caulk. (picture)

• Air conditioner was not functioning properly. It was improperly installed and outside air was able to enter around the unit. Gap exceeded one inch.

• Carpet in front of door was soaking wet. (picture)

• Shower curtain rod was not properly installed and fell down when trying to pull curtain closed. (picture)

• Toilet paper was placed in recessed area because there was not roll to place it on. (picture)

I addressed these conditions with the staff upon checkout, but he was unwilling to provide any resolution. The employee stated that the “better” hotels charge $450 a night on race weekend, but I knew that wasn’t true. We have stayed at a large chain hotel in previous years that were in excellent condition with all standard amenities and paid around $150. Unfortunately this hotel was fully booked when we tried making reservations. I told the employee this but he just shook his head. I have disputed this charged on my credit card. Looking back now we wish we had left as soon as we saw the room and looked for something else. We both agree we would have rather slept in our truck at the racetrack parking lot. Needless to say we will never stay at an America’s Best Value Inn again.

I can't recommend them – Posted Mar 13, 2007

Horrible
60 year old male with a moderate budget, traveling for leisure

The first thing they did was double charge me for same room I had made reservations in Jan. 5 with Orbitz.

Then I checked in, and they charged another $472 all the while I’m telling him it taken out already, now I’m trying to recover the $472. Their clerks speak very poor English.

The rooms were dirty, the bathroom is the pits, and the price was outlandish for bike week. It’s not recommended at all.

Terrible service, horrible conditions – Posted Feb 26, 2007

Horrible
25 year old female with a luxury budget, traveling for leisure

This hotel was absolutely disgusting. There were stains on the ceilings and walls, the sheets were dirty, and the bathroom was disgusting. The service was horrible.

We didn't have a working telephone for our entire stay, even though we reported it to the front desk numerous times, and we whenever we had a problem, we were sent to deal with it ourselves, rather than the staff helping us.

And to top it all off, they double charged us on our credit card and when we brought it to their attention, we were told that they would "get around to it when they had time." We will never even think about staying here again, and I will warn everyone I know to stay away!
