The water wheels dating from c 1800 are a feature of The Priest House on the River, although there was a mill on the site, mentioned in the 1086 Doomsday Book, when it was valued at ?Ten Shillings and One Penny? Medieval in origin, the mills on this site were at first used for corn milling and ?fulling? (removing grease from wool). Paper mills were in existence by 1680 and later uses include plaster production, log sawing and button making. The mills were rebuilt by Lord Hastings in grand Gothic style c1800 but suffered much fire damaged in 1864 and 1927. Situated on the banks of the river Trent and surrounded by 54 acres of beautiful nature woodland, The Priest House enjoys a reputation as one of the finest country house hotels in East Midlands. 44 individually designed bedrooms include 3 suites and 21 Executive bedrooms with 42? plasma screen television, data point technology, DVD and VHS player, while & rooms also feature spa bath. Following major refurbishment in 2001, the Hotel offers fine dinning in the Restaurant, with a wide choice of imaginative cuisine, an excellent wine list and superlative service. Head Chef David Cordy and his brigade use local produce wherever possible to provide a regularly changing menu. Alternatively, you can enjoy a varied menu with a wide choice of beers, wines and spirits, complimented by friendly, unobtrusive service in our stunning, contemporary Brasserie. With its ideal location just 4 miles from the motorway network, The Priest House on the River is an ideal location to explore the counties of Derbyshire, Nottinghamshire and Leicestershire.

Mentioned in the Doomsday book of 1086, the Priest House on the River has been lovingly transformed from ancient Norman Mill to beautiful country house hotel. Nestled on the banks of the river Trent, surrounded by mature woodland and countryside, the only interruption to tranquility is the gentle burbling of the river over the ancient weir and the warm crackle of open fires. Within easy reach of the M1, international airports and rail links, it is the ideal venue for business and pleasure. Service is friendly yet discreet. Guests can relax in the library or the traditional English Pub, whilst fine wine dining is available in the award wining restaurant. All traditional country pursuits are available on the estate or nearby.
